Jamming with Jesse: A Deep Dive into Lotus' Music and Influences
Jesse Miller is a Philadelphia-based musician best known as the Bassist, Sampler and Modular Synth player for the instrumental electronic jam band, Lotus. Lotus has influences of classic electronic dance music, funk, post-rock and dance-rock. Over the years, their unique musical blend of electronica with jam music has helped forge a new path in the jamband landscape, influencing many younger bands in the scene.
The gang talks about the songwriting approach to turn electronic songs into a live instrumental performance, using auto-tune as a tool - not a crutch, when long droning bass parts lend itself to the other parts over top of it, how Jesse's side project 'Octave Cat' came to be, and why Fred Again makes Mike drive around in the car like a sad boy - among other things.
Jesse prepared some latkes the day before so he cooked up a couple of those for lunch but was waiting for some green chili to cook up that he was going to eat after the show.
