Denise Medved is an Author, Speaker, Creator AND Founder of the Ageless Grace® Brain Health program. A preventative, restorative and developmental practice focusing on cognitive function for people of all ages, but particularly active older adults–for whom memory and brain function has begun to top their list of health concerns.

A self proclaimed “Brain Nerd”, she graduated from The Neuroscience Academy in Sydney, Australia, and studied Gerontology in a Graduate program at Western North Carolina University.

Her TEDx talk is titled “Changing Your Brain Can Be As Simple As Child’s Play” and she’s led tens of thousands of students at such prestigious institutions as Harvard Medical School and the International Council on Active Aging.

I met Denise in 2008 while she was beta testing what is now her world renowned Ageless Grace program, and I credit her as the person who led me to discover that it truly is safe to inhabit my own body and how to really SENSE embodiment.

I trained with Denise in 2009 to become an Ageless Grace educator and have been helping to carry out the mission of this work since then–teaching weekly Ageless Grace classes here in the Fox Cities.Links for Denise Episode:

In this episode, we're offering a sneak peek into our upcoming Sages series, which promises to be a deeply impactful and insightful journey. The Sages series is a tribute to the voices of elder women, individuals who embody wisdom and insight derived from rich life experiences. This series is close to my heart, as it's born from the genuine connections I've made with these remarkable women.

Meet Our Sages: These episodes are inspired by a group of extraordinary women, the original sages, who I've had the privilege of interacting with since 2014 during my brain and body wellness classes. They're vibrant, funny, and endlessly fascinating. Over time, I've expanded this group by facilitating a women's story circle at a local senior center. This work is a labor of love, and I feel truly humbled to be a part of it.

Stories from the Sages: Today, I'm thrilled to share a compilation of stories from our pilot story circle program. Our first story comes from Emma, a remarkable woman at the age of 96. Emma's narrative takes a captivating turn when she recounts her time in the field of nursing. A particularly poignant moment emerges when she shares an experience of delivering a baby and having to make critical decisions when the doctor was unavailable. Her candid account reflects her strength and the pivotal role she played in bringing new life into the world.

Peggy, another sage, shares a heartwarming tale about her favorite teacher, Mr. Waters. While not excelling in many subjects, Peggy found her passion and brilliance in art class. Her nostalgia-filled journey back to her hometown to reconnect with Mr. Waters leads to an unexpected revelation about their shared adventurous spirit.

Themes of the Sages Series: The Full Spirals podcast and our upcoming Sages series delve into deeply personal themes. One prevailing theme is the idea of aging as a woman in a culture that often diminishes our value as we grow older. The series aims to challenge these notions, highlight true worth beyond physical appearance, and explore the process of redefining our value as individuals.

In this heartfelt episode, Stacy shares personal excerpts from her own journey, exploring the themes of Amor Fati (Love of Fate) and the power of unconditional love. Inspired by the teachings of Friedrich Nietzsche and author Elizabeth Lesser, she reflects on the profound impact of her first art teacher, Joyce, who opened her eyes to the world of art and self-discovery during one transformative summer–and what happened when she reached out to Joyce 40+ years later.

Project: I'm Speaking, featuring HELEN AVAKIAN
An Award-winning songstress and International Fingerstyle Champion Helen Avakian has moved audiences for decades with her haunting voice and versatile guitar playing.

Speaking with Helen and hearing her incredible stories—was so enriching that we spent a lot of time just sort of talking and meandering through her life–which by the way is punctuated with these FANTASTIC Full Spiral moments!
Lauded a number one “Favorite Acoustic Act” four times by Rhythm and News magazine and winner of eight first prizes from the NewSongs Contest, she has performed on PBS radio and television, on stage with Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul, and Mary), and as an opener for luminaries ranging from Stanley Jordan, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Imuh-gen Heep to the New York Philharmonic.

I left our time together SO inspired and reminded of the importance of supportive mentors and taking chances in this life! (Like when Helen met and jammed with founder and lead guitarist of Fanny, June Millington!)

My wish for you is for you to listen to Helen with the same childlike wonder with which Helen sees the world and seems to approach her whole life. In JOY!
