In 2018, in the immediate aftermath of yet another senseless, hate driven mass shooting at the Tree Of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA, I got fed up with the gun violence that plagues our country and I wrote “Tree Of Life”. It’s a somber, mournful plea to find “a better way” to deal with gun violence. When I started this podcast in 2021 one of the first episodes I put out featured this song after yet another mass shooting. Now here we are in 2022 and the carnage continues, this past week in Buffalo, NY and 7 other cities. There have already been 198 mass shootings in the U.S. this year! This is insane. The politicians continue to do nothing. As my song says, “we must find a better way - today”. Please contact your politicians and demand a solution to this terrible problem.

“The Mighty Jim McCarty”, as his friend Ted Nugent calls him, is one of the great legendary blues rock guitarists of the rock era. He hit the top of the charts as a teenager playing with Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels on “Devil With The Blue Dress/Good Golly Miss Molly”. He’s gone on to play with a Who’s Who including Buddy Miles, Cactus (with Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert of Vanilla Fudge fame), Mystery Train and others. He recorded with Jimi Hendrix and Bob Seger. We talk about his life in rock and roll, and we do a Songfest.

My featured song in this episode is “The One I’m Not Supposed To See” from the album East Side Sessions by my band Project Grand Slam. Spotify link HERE.

Joey Dee and the Starliters were one of the biggest bands of the early 1960s. They had a massive hit in 1962 with the song "The Peppermint Twist", which captured the international frenzy of the twist dance craze. Joey relives that era with me and in his new book, "The Peppermint Twist Chronicles". His stories are amazing, including about all his famous band members such as Jimi Hendrix, Ronnie Spector (The Ronettes) and Felix Cavaliere (The Rascals).

KEY TAKEAWAYS: Always do the right thing.
Robert’s featured song in this episode is his reimagined version of the iconic Dobie Gray hit, “The ‘In’ Crowd”, from PGS 7 by Robert’s band, Project Grand Slam. He chose this song because Joey was definitely part of the In Crowd back in the day.

Shannon Koehler is the drummer and singer for The Stone Foxes, the great San Francisco based rock band. They have employed a brilliant music licensing strategy which placed their songs in TV shows like “Sons Of Anarchy”, films like “Free Solo” and commercials for brands like Jack Daniels.
