Fitness Flipped

Fitness Flipped

Peloton Studios

“Fitness Flipped,” a Peloton Studios Original, is where we flip the script on all the things we think we know about fitness. Each week Peloton Instructor, athlete, author & host Tunde Oyeneyin will sit down with some of the most interesting experts and personalities from the world of fitness and beyond (Olympians! Musicians! Sociologists! Comedians! Actors!) to challenge and transform some of our own ideas about health, strength and mental wellness, and maybe even ourselves. What does it really mean to be strong? Does competition actually have anything to do with winning? Is the most important thing about pushing hard actually rest? Together, we’ll find out.

Every Tuesday we will dive deep on a topic and on Friday you will hear a story from a Peloton Member about their lived experience.

Fitness Flipped - Stress, Member Story: A NICU Doctor Finds Her People
play

03/10/22 • 11 min

A key to combating stress? Finding your people. Frontline workers have been holding us up these past two years - so what do they do to take care of themselves and prevent stress and burnout during this incredibly challenging time? During covid, female physicians have used Peloton en masse to manage their stress and chase serotonin. Dr. Jagu Anadkat, a neonatal intensive care doctor in St. Louis, organized a group of her coworkers across many departments to ride together once a week. They have held each other up, made each other laugh, and found that some sweat and community goes a long way.

This episode talks about weight & body image. We understand this can be a sensitive and challenging topic. If this is a topic that you find triggering, we suggest listening to another episode of Fitness Flipped. Tunde and her guests are always here to support you!

This is the most challenging theme of the season! Body image. It’s locked into body ideals (which change), pop culture (which changes), and broader society (which always wants us to change). But it never takes into account that bodies also change! We’re asking a lot of questions about where the concept of body ideals come from and what it means to how we perceive ourselves. Professor Nancy Chen, joins us to go deep on the history and how trends of body ideals change over time. Mustard also joins us for a conversation about starting his journey to finding his physical strength. How we perceive our bodies sometimes becomes our greatest obstacle to growth. We’re here to help it become our strength.

Today’s episode features Professor Nancy Chen. You can watch her TED Talk Here. The episode also features Mustard - @mustard.

This week we're flipping the idea of what it actually means to be strong. Sometimes our fitness of the body, mind, of *EVERYTHING* can be challenged. Our very foundation of our strength is challenged. So how do you gain your strength back after you've had your entire world turned upside down? Our member Robin J Price who rides with us down in Virginia had to redefine strength for herself when she was diagnosed with aggressive cancer just before the pandemic. Robin found strength in herself, and not only that, she found strength in her Peloton community.
