Are you tired of those perfectly curated social media profiles with women our age so photoshopped they all look age 18 and size 2? (seriously, what’s up with that?) But not feeling old enough to pre-order your coffin? Me too! That's why I started the fabulous over 50 podcast. It's time for us to celebrate being at an age where we stop caring about what other people think and just live fabulously - whatever that means to each of us! I'm your host, Jen Hardy, and I'm going to take you on a journey to the fabulousness inside yourself. Because fabulous is a state of mind. We’re going to take on the tough issues too, like ageism, dealing with menopause (& after), and putting the ‘care’ back into healthcare. You know what I'm talking about!

Fabulous Over 50 - My neck has fallen, and it can't get up!
play

04/13/23 • 21 min

I'm getting real in this episode of Fabulous Over Fifty! It's the short version of my personal journey of embracing body positivity and aging, something I feel has happened rather rapidly lately - the aging part. It's important to acknowledge both the ups and downs of feeling good about ourselves, and I want to encourage you to share your own insights and struggles after you listen. You can contact me at JenHardy.net any time. Let me know if aging is easy or difficult for you. Or, like me, you've got a mix of both.

We're also talking about how being fabulous is not just about material possessions, money, or plastic surgery (can't do it) but it's a state of mind. You'll journey with me as I check out and adjust lighting for video recording to avoid unflattering angles. Not sure how I feel about all that, but we've gone & shared it!

And I'm so happy to announce my new project called "Jen's Friends", where I'll be sending daily video emails to encourage others dealing with loneliness. You can find info about that on the website here.

Thank you for joining me today!

I'm having a blast creating Fabulous Over 50 & it would be an honor to have you share it with someone who would enjoy it. Thank you!

Fabulous Over 50 - In Sickness and In Health - Finding the Fun
play

08/29/23 • 20 min

When you said in sickness and in health, you probably pictured a sniffle or maybe a slight fever, but then life throws a curveball...

In today's episode, we're tackling the topic of taking care of an ill husband and getting our final paperwork in order. It's important stuff & we're here to provide answers and a dose of humor for those navigating this challenging situation.

Picture this: your DIY superstar husband suddenly becomes the patient and you're the nurse. It's not as easy as those wedding vows made it seem, but through the trials of healthcare, we can learn to love each other even more. So how do we make the best of it? Well, first things first, kick Doctor Google out of the house. Not every sneeze is a rare disease. Stick to real doctors and limit the WebMD visits.

Next, channel your inner chef. Use this time to experiment with new recipes and maybe even turn making soup into an Olympic sport. And when it comes to entertainment, Netflix and chill becomes literal. Balance tearjerkers with comedies, because emotional cardio is a thing. Plus, it's a chance for quality together time.

Get ready to learn a whole new vocabulary too. Medical terms will become your household jargon, and it's okay to laugh at the struggles of pronouncing them.

Oh, and pajamas! Find some funny PJs for your hubby to bring a smile to his face. And let's not forget patience! Amidst the chaos, there are countless moments to be thankful for. So if you find yourself in this situation, or know someone who is, we've got your back.

And the grown up homework needs to be done - now. Wills, powers of attorney, advanced healthcare directives - oh my!! Now is the time to complete them all, and treat yourself when they're finished!

Thank you for joining me today!

I'm having a blast creating Fabulous Over 50 & it would be an honor to have you share it with someone who would enjoy it. Thank you!

09/12/23 • 45 min

This conversation is about to get real & insightful. So grab your favorite beverage, sit back, and join us as we explore a man's perspective in this fabulous episode!

Fabulous Over 50 - Unbelievable But True - Weird Florida Laws
play

04/13/24 • 12 min

Hello Fabulous!

Welcome to our new series - a deep dive into the American Justice System.

We're gonna start with a little bit of humor, and I would love it if you would submit all of your questions and concerns about our legal system as well as the people you'd like me to interview. I would absolutely love your input!

It's time to dive into the wonderfully wacky world of American laws. Let's cut to the chase: America has some pretty strange rules on the books, and I’m here to dish out the details. First up, if you're craving bear claws while wandering the wilds of Maine, stick to the pastry kind, my friend. Actual bear claws?

Down in Florida, where I reside among the eternal sunshine, there's a law that's music to no one's ears – singing off-key in your bathing suit is a big no-no. So, when in Florida, make sure those vocal cords are as finely tuned as your suntan. And don't even think about a melodic dip in the pool unless your pitch is perfect.

Today I have a special guest: Meredith. Meredith has a YouTube Channel called Surviving as Mom

Meredith is a stay at home Mom of 4 boys, living in NY. She has an autoimmune disease called Sjogren's Syndrome, Dysautonomia, and more. She is a Youtube mom vlogger, where she shares my experiences as a mom with a chronic illness. Many of her followers also suffer from chronic illness, so they've formed a wonderful, understanding community. She offers experience, support and inspiration to her viewers.

The thing I love about talking to Meredith is the way she is so articulate! Many people picture people who use marijuana as dopey and slow, but Meredith is completely the opposite! She shares her story of how she came to the decision to use medical marijuana, and what it's like. She chooses to use a strain that doesn't have much THC when she's with her boys so she can be her best self with them.

-Listen and find out more-

Meredith's advice for moms with health issues: Focus on the good things in your life. Hang on to the hope that this will pass.

Meredith's superpower is: Resiliency. "I just can't give up."

Welcome back, fabulous! Today we're talking about Beverly Williams, a woman who truly embodies the saying "where there's a will, there's a way." Now, I'll be honest, I was a little nervous going into this episode because our interview with Beverly didn't go so well the first time around. We had tech fail after tech fail. But after hearing her inspiring story, I had to try again! Beverly has a tenacious spirit, working full-time and going to law school at night. She had a mortgage and totally supported herself the whole time! I feel tired just thinking about it, don't you? But Beverly's determination paid off and she landed a prestigious law clerk position, eventually working for some of the most reputable law firms in the country. Her story reminds us that even when things seem impossible, hard work and perseverance can pay off in the end. I also loved hearing about the importance of setting children up for success in areas they excel in, instead of giving them meaningless participation trophies. Yes, we know - we've rolled our eyes at the sight of those too. Overall, this episode is filled with inspirational anecdotes and practical tips for achieving success. So, if you're feeling down or like success is out of reach, make sure to tune in and listen to Beverly Williams' story. It just might change your life. Stay fabulous!
