Richard who has a BSc Honors in Music from the City University, London, is author of the book “Music Rights Without Fights” and an expert in music rights with senior level UK, US & European experience. Richard is a seasoned conference speaker and panellist, regular contributor to trade media, trainer and educationalist. He started his career as Head of Film, TV and Media at Zomba Music Publishers and then stepped up to start Leap Music Limited, the first music publishing company inside a UK ad agency, as it was part of BBH Communications. Ten years ago, Richard left Leap to start Resilient Music LLP which brokers music rights agreements for advertisers. Richard also consults for Advertising Production Resources, AKA APR as a their Music Rights Management Consultant. Having just reacquired the Leap catalogue from BBH, Richard is excited to be back in the publishing business with his new entity Richard Kirstein Ltd. Exploring Music E42 The Long Arc of Jazz part 1 of 2 with Rens Newland and Martin Fuss

For this episode, which is titled ‘The Long Arch of Jazz’ we are very fortunate to have with us, Rens Newland and Martin Fuss, who collectively run Jive Music Austria with Rens handling the label and marketing management and Martin handling the financial side with both of them managing the A&R duties.

Rens is a master guitarist from Holland who has made his unique mark on the music scene through decades of tireless, dedicated work. Starting with his early years as a pop guitarist, he quickly transitioned into Blues and Jazz. This evolution led him to be a part of the Jazz-Rock revolution, and the USA Billboards Charts’ success of his first album with the band Scope. Among his notable accomplishments over his more than 4-decades musical career, is his work as musical Director and Guitarist for Gloria Gaynor and for The Supremes. Rens is a quadruple musical threat. He is a guitarist, producer, composer, and orchestrator, he has recorded over a dozen - mostly Jazz or Fusion jazz - albums under his own name, plus many more with other projects like the famous Ostinato, plus he is on numerous albums as a side-man.

Martin’s musical education started at the age of 12 with classical clarinet lessons - but shortly after he changed to the tenorsax. He completed his studies at the Conservatory of Music, Vienna (master of arts) and the Berklee College of Music(Boston/USA). He is one of the most demanded studio and session players as well as jazz soloist in styles ranging from small jazz groups to big band and also plays in orchestral settings. Since 1991 he is teaching at the University of Music in Vienna and is endorser for Schagerl Saxophones and D'ADDARIO PERFORMING ARTISTS.
