What do Elhers Danlos syndrome(EDS) , Hypermobile EDS (hEDS), Hypermobility Spectrum disorder, ADHD, Autism, and Endometriosis have in common? Libby Hinsley takes us through this tangled ball of yarn that really can't be separated. Libby enlightens us with some powerful information when it comes to bendy people, such as:
-What EDS and hEDS is and it's varying forms ( a connective tissue disorder)
-The Challenge getting a diagnosis of EDS and specifically hEDS
- Even though you are symptomatic doesn't mean that you have hEDS, but have Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) , which is very similar to hEDS.
- 1 in 500 have hEDS or EDS
-The strong correlation between those who have ADHD and/or are on the Autism spectrum as well as other Neurodivergent diagnosis and bendy people.
- How the brain mapping of bendy people is different when it comes to the Amygdala, leading to hyper-vigilance and hypersensitivity along with and other variances.
- How Bendy people are more likely to have PTSD, anxiety, and disordered eating.
-The anecdotal evidence points to a higher percentage of Endo patients aligning with the hEDS, EDS, and HSD diagnosis given the Dysautonomia and Mast Cell Activation correlation.
-The 3 indicators of correlation are
- Bendy
- Itchy- (Mast Cell issues like rash, hives, GI issues, brain fog, fatigue, and muscle fatigue)
- Dizziness- Dysautonomia ( postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS)
- Ways to manage being bendy
- Strengthening our muscles and joints in a methodical movement avoiding injury and slow healing.
and much much more.
Libby gives us a lot of valuable information. There's a lot to unpack in this episode that you won't want to miss.

Pt. 2: A History Of Medical Racism and Its Part In Current Endometriosis Treatment for Those of Color: Kimether's Story

We start our part two with talking about ways that we can communicate to your care provider and setting the tone for your appointment. Something we should always ask is what is the differential diagnosis? This puts you in a position to gather more information and have your doctor really be present with you in the exam room. That was just the start to the wisdom Kimether showered on us.
We've all heard and experienced the abysmal information and care when it comes to Endometriosis. Have you ever stepped back and looked at the history of endometriosis care? Imagine having the same pain as other's but being told it's only a white woman's disease. Kimether continues walking us through the history of Endometriosis and the roots of racism and scientific racism to people of color. She talks about how it all really started with a doctor with the last name of Meigs ( ring a bell?). It started out because of a sociological difference between middle to upper class white woman and people of color. Kimether gives not only the history, but incredibly insightful thoughts on why there's still racial inequality within our health system and specifically for those of color dealing with Endometriosis, or any chronic disease.
This episode was thought-provoking and full of mind blowing information. Listening to Kimether bring history to light challenges us to look at how we approach inclusive care for all. This is a must listen to for everyone!
