Ayurveda takes a holistic approach to low body weight and takes into consideration the physical, mental and emotional factors at play. Ayurveda gives guidelines to help promote weight gain and it’s not just a case of eating more food but rather looking at the types of food, the tastes and the qualities of the food along with pacifying lifestyle practices. With each individual having a unique constitution the root causes will vary and most importantly the advice needs to be tailored to each individual.

In this episode Colette shares general Ayurvedic guidelines which will be beneficial for weight gain and she discusses the following:

  • The reasons for low body weight.
  • Ayurvedic brimhana treatment protocol.
  • The effects of stress on body weight.
  • When, how and what to eat to ensure good digestion, absorption and assimilation.
  • Ayurvedic herbs for tissue building and strengthening.

Colette chats with Dr Manisha about her new book 'Enchanting Beauty' (Ancient secrets to inner, outer and lasting beauty). They discuss the following:

  • Why did you want to write a book like this?
  • What is your definition of beauty?
  • Can you tell us about the Shakti energy and the importance of this energy for our wellbeing.
  • After many, many years of treating women in your clinical practice, you questioned, like: “why women felt that they were somehow unworthy after menopause”, “why women felt vulnerable in relationships”, ‘why women were so stressed”, “what made young ladies have such fear around their appearance and such a lack of self-esteem”....Can you tell us the realisation you had from this reflection?
  • In your book you said that ”It is our birthright to experience this profound understanding of beauty, but in a world of so much pretending, masquerading and twisting beauty into something other than what it truly is, we need somewhere to turn to that harbours the truth. And, you went on to say that the first step is ...”to begin with, that we need to allow our inner beauty to resurface in our awareness”. Can you please explain this important first step?
  • A woman goes through many transitions in her life, can you discuss the importance of these transitions and give some tips for women of all ages going through these different life transitions.

Springtime is an energetic time of year! After the long Winter months, Kapha rises in the environment and this has a big impact on our body and mind. The Kapha energy brings the qualities of;

• Moist

• Cold

• Heavy

• Static

• Soft

• Liquid

When the body has excess Kapha qualities it can cause the following symptoms:

• Congestion, mucus, colds, coughs, sinusitis

• Low, heavy energy, depletion, lethargy

• Feeling lazy, uninspired

• Slow digestion, weight gain, water retention

• Drowsiness, excessive sleep

• Brain fog, depression, withdrawal from social activities

If you are experiencing these symptoms, then it’s likely that you’re experiencing an imbalance or aggravation of the Kapha dosha.

However, the good news is that these imbalances can easily be reversed with an appropriate Kapha balancing diet and lifestyle.
