"It’s falling in love with the day to day, one thing at a time. It’s falling in love with the journey.”

Being able to “fail out loud” is just as important, if not more, than being able to celebrate out loud! It’s recognizing that you are human and you will come across human set-backs, along the way, but continuing to push though and not allowing that to deter your goal. Having someone who is on the same page as you or even an entire tribe on the same page as you, (my Body + Soul tribe) is vital! They will be your backbone and your extra push on the days when you'd rather sit in PJ’s and watch Netflix, but know you should be hitting the gym and meal planning!

“Unless you are in supported ground and soil, you will not be able to grow where you are.”

Which brings me to today’s big topic...HABIT. It’s now the second week into 2017 and the buzz/enthusiasm for new goals is starting to die dow, but that doesn’t mean yours should! Despite what you have heard, thanks to the audible book I have been listening to “The Answer,” it takes about 66 days (on average) to change or form a habit. It’s only January 12th, moral of the story...DON’T.STOP.NOW.

In This Episode You Will Learn About:
  • Commitment
  • Celebrating small steps
  • Planning
  • Health
  • Wellness
  • Growth
  • Support

“The actual journey is a lot different than what people think.”

Let’s be honest here. We all want something better, or something we don’t have and that’s fine because contrary to what anyone says, it’s all eventually achievable!

“It comes down to consistency, faith and the willingness to show up!”

From time to time, especially depending on the severity of the situation, we tend to think we were dealt an “unlucky hand.” But what we are failing to realize is that every mess has a message! Every one of these life tests is FOR YOU!

“It’s not happening to you, it’s happening for you.”

The person or situation that is testing you most is the one that’s going to help strengthen you – and your muscles. Instead of negative outlooks, view each situation as a gift to become stronger (mentally or physically, whatever your biggest struggle may be in this moment). Like the old saying says, “Nothing in life worth having is going to be easy to obtain.”

In This Episode You Will Learn About:
  • Evolution
  • Soul
  • Why are we here?
  • Life
  • Thoughts
  • Struggles
  • Messages
  • Failure
  • Trial and error
  • Growing
  • Bonus
  • Consistency

Show Notes:

Alisa Vitti, also known as the “hormone whisperer,” is a functional nutritionist, women’s hormone expert, best-selling author, and the founder of floliving.com. In this conversation, she talks about her journey healing her own health issues — cystic acne, excess weight, infertility, and more — through food and functional medicine, and why it was so important for her to begin sharing this message with more women.

Question Highlights:

  • How did this all originate for you?
  • Is it normal for somebody not to have a regular period?
  • How can we support ourselves around our cycle?
  • Is it normal to have hiccups in energy or different moods?
  • Can you tell us about morning routines?
  • How do you manifest faster?

Guest Bio:

Alisa Vitti is a functional nutritionist, women’s hormone expert, best selling author and founder of floliving.com. Also known as the “hormone whisperer,” Alisa has opened up the conversation about menstruation while helping and inspiring women to tap into their inner wisdom and feel good all month long.

As a student at John Hopkins, Alisa Vitti was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS. When her physicians gave her only band-aid solutions to manage it, she realized that she needed a more organic solution. Determined to take matters into her own hands she turned to food and functional nutrition to get to the root of her issues. It worked, and on many levels. After healing herself of cystic acne, excess weight, infertility, and normalizing her period, Alisa made it her mission to help other women to do the same.

Alisa founded FLO Living in 2002. At that time, it was called Laughing Sage Wellness, and it was a brick and mortar women’s health center in New York City. Alisa’s classes and one-on-one coaching taught women how to achieve regular periods, how to heal from menstrual disorders such as PMS, PCOCS, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and fibroids, and how to optimize fertility and heal symptoms of perimenopause or premature hormonal aging. Alisa created the WomanCode System to teach women how to balance their hormones with food and lifestyle changes.

Demand for the FLO protocol and classes grew so much that the center was constantly booked, and to meet the demand Alisa transformed her wellness practice into the first-ever online hormone health center to help women around the world. FLO Living has since helped thousands of women in more than 216 countries for over 14 years.

Alisa is also the author of the best selling books, WomanCode and In the FLO: Unlock Your Hormonal Advantage and Revolutionize Your Life (Harper Collins 1/28/20), public speaker and creator of the period tracker app MyFLO. MyFLO is the first-ever functional medicine based period tracking app that helps users track symptoms and know what to do to become symptom free. She has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show, has a web series on Lifetime, and has been a regular contributor for CBS, Fox, Shape, Women’s Health, MindBodyGreen, and the Huffington Post. She has served on the Yahoo Health advisory board and is a member of the Well & Good Wellness Council. She is also an advisor to several health and health tech startups. She has presented at TEDx, Talks@Google, Summit Series Outside, Hay House, WIE Symposium, and SHE Summit.

Alisa lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.

Earn Your Happy - 280: Spoken Word Poem: Fear Marks the Spot
play

10/18/18 • 17 min

This past weekend I was invited to write and share a new spoken word poem at my soul sister, Danette May’s event. To say I was terrified is putting it mildly, but I did it! And while I’m still processing my the journey and the emotions around it, one thing I know for certain is that my fear is always the X that marks the spot when it comes to what fulfills me and makes me feel like I’m living in my highest potential.

I shared a couple clips of the poem on social media, but have gotten several requests to hear the poem in its entirety. Always one to feel the fear again (why?!), I’ve recorded it on this episode and have provided the words below. If my words pull at your soul and you know someone else who would benefit, please share. Thanks so much for all of your support!

Here we go...

I got up today only to find that I’m still not yet where I want to be

A little less “I woke up like this”

A little more - “existential crisis” – feeling stuck in my reality.

When I think about who I am now, compared to who I think I’m supposed to be

I wake up every morning, AND INSTEAD of doing things that set me free

I put on a straight-jacket and wear someone else’s identity.

Not even accepting myself on my own ID

Height one inch taller

Weight 10 pounds smaller

Anyone else fear a lie detector test at the DMV – or is it just me?

Just the thought of trying to change my life makes me feel defeated

Like I got the short end of the stick

Or like this bitch over here got all the talent

And I got cheated.

When I close my eyes, I can see my life’s vision

But when I open them, I can’t see past my email, my thighs, my to-do list and dirty kitchen

I mean what’s it gonna take to reach my dream, be seen, and get attention?

Instead of growing my mind

I put all my energy towards beauty, titles and Instagram mentions.

When will I be enough?

Thanks to Fairytales and Ariel, I’ve spent my whole life chasing people and stuff

“Look at this stuff isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?”

Still waiting for my Prince Charming, castle and Fairy Godmother

Jerry Maguire said, “You complete me”

So feeling enough must ONLY come from a love.r

So many mixed messages, it’s no wonder we’re confused

The world tries keeping us busy stressing over low carbs, waist trainers and red-bottom shoes

They sidetrack us from our purpose with diets and promises of youth

But it’s a choice to decide to be committed to finding and living your truth.

The other day I was walking past a man in conversation with his mate

He said, and I quote, “You deserve the life you tolerate”

I just about choked

Cause at that point in my day I was feeling upset

Sorry for myself because there are unlived dreams I haven’t met yet

If what I tolerate is the life that I’m living

then you’re telling me it’s been my choice to not use these gifts I’ve been given?

They say through ownership I can get my power back

I gotta be honest – easier said than done

I was really hoping this whole personal development thing would be a little more fun...

True story – I was recently at an event like this

Sitting in the audience

And from the stage I felt the speakers words hit me in the soul much like a deliverance:

I am not what you think I am; I am not what I think I am; I am what I think you think I am.”

Let me repeat that....

I am not what you think I am; I am not what I think I am; I am what I think you think I am”

Moral of the story is the only thing that’s stopping us, is what other people think Get your mind off other people’s shit And put your soul back in the driver’s seat!

The only thing wrong with you is that you think something is wrong with you.

Everything is right with you

In spite of you

Ignoring the higher you

The answers are all inside of you

So why are you

Gripping onto others view

When what they think of you is...

NOTHING. Because they’re only thinkin’ about themselves.

The truth will set you free,

But first it will piss you off

And the truth is:

If you keep fighting for your limitations, you get to keep them

It’s time to stop choosing suffering

and choose to fight for your queendom.

I know the life I’m born for and the woman I’m supposed to be

I’m embarrassed to tell you my soul is an undercover celebrity

So where do I go if I believe the life I have now must be disputed

It’s like I can see I’m on screen

But my voice has been muted

It’s been so long since I’ve used it, or maybe I never learned how

But lately something’s stirring, rising up telling me my time is now.

Wh...
