E-Ticket to Broadway

Tony Award-nominee and Broadway superstar Rob McClure (Beetlejuice, Mrs. Doubtfire, Avenue Q) joins David to chat all things Disney Parks on this episode of 'E-Ticket to Broadway'! Rob's love and fascination with Disney magic is incredibly sweet and genuine--listen as he shares his experience of going to Walt Disney World for the first time at age 16 and how he was immediately in awe. It was that trip that made him fall in love with the Disney Theme Parks (and also the first time he left his home state of New Jersey!). The next time Rob went was while on tour with Avenue Q and his wife Maggie, and this trip cemented his love of Main Street USA, the Country Bear Jamboree, and The Enchanted Tiki Room. Meeting the Fab Five at the Parks and seeing Tinkerbell during the Fireworks remain a core memory for Rob.

He and David go back in time to talk about Rob's early experiences with Disney--dancing and conducting to the soundtrack of "The Lion King," seeing both "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" & "Aladdin" in the movie theater, and being in awe of that voice actor who gave life to the Genie. Rob shares his love of Captain Hook, Smee, Geppetto, and Jiminy Cricket, as well as the Muppets (and tells the story of finding an amazing piece of merch he found at the Parks).

At the time of recording, Rob was just back from taking his daughter to Walt Disney World for the first time and shares some fun memories from the trip, including dinner at Beast's castle and walking through Galaxy's Edge and sobbing. He reveals a very special story about his daughter and wife having a similar reaction to a certain magical moment above Cinderella Castle.

If ever there was an episode about a deep love for both Wall-E & Maximus (the horse from "Tangled"), this is the one. Join Tony Award-winner Lena Hall ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "Kinky Boots," TNT's "Snowpiercer") as she reminisces about her love of Disney growing up--from going to Disneyland as a kid and seeing Captain EO and "It's a Small World," to how as a child she would sing along to "The Little Mermaid" and the "big one" that is "Beauty and the Beast" (and wanting to be Snow White so badly). Lena recalls her first time going to Walt Disney World while on tour with "Cats," and also shares a very sordid story from a trip to Pleasure Island while on tour with "Annie Get Your Gun." Besides her love of Ursula, Sebastian, Timon & Pumbaa, and "The Nightmare Before Christmas," Lena digs in and talks about her love of the flawed Disney characters and just how complex they are. She shares a very romantic story about watching "Wall-E "with her husband (then boyfriend) in a little cabin together, as well as her time in "Tarzan" on Broadway and the challenges she faced during that part of her life--and finding her purpose. Your wishes have been granted, for the one and only James Monroe Iglehart ("Aladdin," Hamilton") joins David on this 50th episode of "E-Ticket to Broadway!" James is such a genuine fan of Disney and going to the Parks--he shares that the first time he heard "The Bear Necessities" he knew he had to go to Disneyland! Listen as James discusses what it was like to grow up in the same state as the OG Magic Kingdom, and the magical journey he took to visit the Park when he was "9 or 10" with his family--meeting the characters, going on the Matterhorn, Space Mountain (a family affair), and his first time experiencing what would become his favorite attraction: The Haunted Mansion.

Like so many former "E-Ticket" guests, James explores the moment he realized that the Parks meant something truly special for him--and in doing so shares his love for the Disney films ( "Alice in Wonderland," "The Jungle Book," "Robin Hood," "Aladdin"), the characters ( Baloo, Captain Hook, Maleficent, The Muppets), and so many wonderful lines of dialogue from the catalogue. The one and only Kara Lindsay returns to "E-Ticket to Broadway" to share more of her love for Walt Disney World as well as the magical world of Disney. This beloved star of "Newsies," "Wicked," and "Beautiful" has been a true fan of Disney ever since she was a young girl in Rochester, New York, and continues to love Belle to this very day. From watching the animated films each Christmas, to her early trips to Walt Disney World, Kara discusses how deeply Disney impacted her, and how thrilling it was to walk through Minnie Mouse's House in Toontown as a child.

During the episode she shares a lovely story about how she performed at the American Pavilion at EPCOT as a high school student with her Show Choir, and how she returned to that very same stage years later to star in the Festival of the Arts Concerts. Though still a fan of Minnie Mouse, the young-at-heart Kara reveals her love of "Flight of Passage," "Soarin'," "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster," and the Pixar films, as well as what it was like to take her son Emerson to the Parks for his very first time (and meeting Mickey!).

Of course she and David chat all things "Newsies" on this episode of "E-Ticket to Broadway." Listen as Kara discusses her experience of watching the film as a kid, her exciting (and nerve-wracking) audition process for the Broadway production (including doing scenes with Jeremy Jordan), creating the role of Katherine Plumber (and mastering "Watch What Happens" in rehearsals), and realizing that Katherine is the best Disney Princess she could have ever played.
