Drinking & Dishing - Drunk Stories & Hangovers: “Stop trying to make sevens happen.”

Drunk Stories & Hangovers: “Stop trying to make sevens happen.”

Drinking & Dishing

This week on Drinking & Dishing your hosts are riding the struggle bus. Part three of Drunk Stories was recorded on MDW and celebrating made both girls hit a wall (it happens!). Nevertheless, they power through to share another round of listener and listener inspired stories that may or may not have come with some regret, or in some cases, a crisp $100. Trains seem to be a pretty common thread among these episodes and this time around does not disappoint. The girls also play a few games where you can get all the juicy details of who’s more likely to and who’s taller. Don’t forget to stay hydrated and drink along; may it be water or may it be wine!

Wrongful Convictions & Exonerations: “I’m not an expert, but apparently I could be.”

This week the girls are taking on a big issue in a way they haven’t before. They sit down with Jess, Stacey’s sister, who has a master in Legal Studies and wrote a thesis on wrongful convictions. There are a lot of layers to this important topic and this week, Nicole and Stacey wanted to get to know more about it. They walk through the reasons that someone can be incarcerated even if they are innocent. The girls look at every part of a persons life that can be effected both behind bars and in a life after prison, only if they are lucky enough to be exonerated. They touch on what states do and don’t provide for those who are finally freed after being put away for something they didn’t do. This week is unofficially dedicated to The Innocence Project, an organization that takes on these cases and fights for the liberty of those who are innocent. As always they are raising a glass, but today’s episode they are doing so in hopes of justice being served in the right way.

For the first time in Drinking & Dishing history, the girls didn’t make it though this episode in one shot (this was bound to happen, guys...we are committed to our theme!). That being said, LGBTQ+ Pride is the perfect topic to take in two parts. The more gay the better! In celebration of Pride month, your hosts are diving into an overview of what this month means to them and reflecting on the limitations, bias, and hardships of the community. Their trusty bartender, Captain Morgan, is here to sit down and chime in this week. The three discuss the growth of the pride movement and where and why it started. They touch on the divide between the church and  LGBTQ+ people and the impact of both communities on each other. They chat about young trans-hood, and how parents respond to young trans people. Briefly hitting on pronouns and fluidly, sexuality and identity are the theme of this week and the girls are here to open the conversation and speak their truth. This is certainly a topic with lots to dish about. The girls are hitting just a tip of the iceberg, but didn’t want to end June without putting a positive message out for LGBTQ+ folks and their allies.
