Parents & Addicts in Need’s Founder Flindt Andersen and Jason LaChance sat-down with Dr. Donna Marks. Dr. Marks is an author, consultant, public speaker, and psychotherapist for over thirty years. She was licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in 1987 and then certified in Addiction, Gestalt Therapy, Hypnosis, Sex Therapy, and Psychoanalysis. She currently has a concierge psychotherapy practice in Palm Beach, Florida.

We discuss with Dr. Marks insight from not only her recovery journey, her years of trained knowledge with those suffering from addiction as well as their families. We also discuss her latest book Exit the Maze: One Addiction, One Cause, One Solution. Donna clarifies what she means by one addiction, one cause and one solution.

Dr. Marks says that after decades of personal and professional experience, Dr. Marks claims abstinence and addressing the underlying trauma of addiction is not enough. With this approach, one addiction simply replaces another, and genuine self-fulfillment is never achieved. She contends every addiction is a substitute for love and until a person learns how to replace addiction with self-love, they will remain addicted

As Shanna states, she's always known that she wanted to be a lawyer, but a series of traumatic events shaped her career in ways that she never could have imagined. As a victim in both a criminal case and personal injury cases, she's experienced firsthand just how overwhelming and difficult it can be to navigate the California justice system.
