Digital Marketing for Humans

In this episode, I had a chat with Perry Baker, a two-time professional Rugby Player of the year awardee. He is the founder of Perry Baker, LLC, which is his personal brand.

We talked about the Rugby Camps that he organizes on a consistent basis for those who want to learn more about the skills needed in Rugby sports. Listen up as we discussed the means and way to achieve his goal for these Rugby camps. Enjoy!

In this episode, we talk about:

  1. How Perry started in Rugby and his personal journey of discovering his skills and became a part of a wonderful brotherhood of his teammates.
  2. The sport Rugby and the variations of it.
  3. The factors that helped him become a two-year, back-to-back awardee as the player of the year in Rugby.
  4. How hard work and dedication played a significant role in his success.
  5. Taking every opportunity that comes your way until such a time, you already have to weigh which of the opportunities will best take you to your goals.

As Perry shares with us his long term goal of turning his Rugby camps to different academy branches eventually, we discuss the following things to help him get closer to that goal:

  1. Ask support from his friends and teammates to reach out in their hometowns and set up shop there.
  2. Reach out to youth varsity initiatives and schools with rugby teams and talk to coaches to organize camps in their schools or districts.
  3. Reach out to Rugby communities like clubs and organizations about setting up camps.
  4. Set up a newsletter to constantly be in touch, even to those connections who have not said yes yet. So when the timing is right, it is easier to pitch again.
  5. Creating more YouTube Content like live commentaries on games.

Postaga

In this episode, I had a chat with Andrew Cabasso. He is the Founder of Postaga, a software tool that helps marketers connect and build a relationship with their audience through email outreach.

We talk about how business people can save resources in the long run by spending time validating their idea first with the target market. He also shares the benefits of having a co-founder rather than doing everything yourself. Listen up, and you will find a lot of value in this episode.

In this episode, we discussed:

  1. How he taught himself to code and was able to code an app that helps find available time slots for delivery of groceries.
  2. That great idea cannot be a business if no one is willing to pay for it.
  3. Spending a lot of time validating the idea so you don’t waste your time developing a product that eventually will not sell.
  4. His decision to have a co-founder who has skills that complement his and how it reduced the burden of being a start-up where you have to do a lot of things.
  5. The importance of open communication when you work with someone.

As Andrew shares the things that he would want more time for, we discuss the following things to help him in that area:

  1. Trusting and empowering your people as you delegate tasks to them.
  2. Being a mentor through a feedback loop in the process of task approval.
  3. Hiring the right people.
  4. Building a diverse team not just in race but primarily in experience.
  5. Experiment and keep going until you find what works for you. Keep in mind that what works today may not work tomorrow.
