As ZEV LOVE X deals with the loss of his brother DJ Subroc and the loss of his recording contract with Elektra, ZEV LOVE X begins his migration from Long Beach to Harlem. He begins to make a new family (The CM Fam) led by Kurious Jorge, Kadi, and the men who held him down creatively and emotionally in Apartment 6G. The importance of the artistry and camaraderie of those men and woman helped formulate his next move.

In this episode we speak with Tom Brown, head of Lex Records in London. MF Doom signed with Lex Records in 2003, where he released four incredible albums, which included collaborations with Danger Mouse, J Dilla, Bishop Nehru, Janeiro Jarel, Ghostface Killah and Thom Yorke. Tom was the man at the helm at Lex and worked closely with Doom all the years he was there, although it took a while for them to actually meet face to face. He reflects fondly on the ups and downs, as well as, the opportunity to not only have worked with him for many years, but also of the bond they shared.

As DOOM continues to figure out how to hide in plain sight and perform without being in public eye, he becomes friends with one of NYC’s most legendary graffiti writers, KEO. While they begin to create the artwork that would become the album cover for “Operation Doomsday," DOOM also asks KEO to help him create his now signature mask. Ben Klingon and Del The Funky Homosapien help tell the story of how the mask came to be, and what else the mask was sometimes used for (other than the mask that DOOM wore).

DOOM and Subroc’s crib was where the formation of all their biggest ideas and master plans were conceptualized. Along with Ahmed’s basement, directly across the street, this little area was where the GYP and KMD was birthed. Hip hop, along with the help of Islam, helped these young minds develop a strong sense of self and a viewpoint that played a crucial part in their music and the development of their individual personalities.
