It's high time for another Decomposed Radio installment!

Up this time is "Fen" also known as George Boynton, a name some of you will recognise from a previous Decomposed Radio episode that was a real fan favourite, under the previous DJ moniker "Brutalist." Fen is also the creative psyched and genius behind one of the Sheffield techno scene's most legit nights "Magnetic North" that specialises in meta-physical rhythms from Sheffield, Manchester and beyond! For the first time in nearly 2 years Magnetic North returns to Sheffield and the lineup is weighing in heavy with DJs inbound from Berlin and London, all powered by Sheffield's very own RAZE soundsystem, at the prestigious Hope Works venue on the 24th of November. Tickets are available on Resident Advisor, so save the date and check out the Magnetic North instagram page for more intel. In terms of the mix for Decomposed Radio 088, it's the usual sonic mission we've come to expect from George. With deep hypnotic tracks, industrial crunch and bouncy grooves that's all set to become another firm favourite, and the catalyst for many a request to get him back on the show again. It's a great representation of the pace and energy he creates on the dancefloor, so get stuck in.... This is Fen..... in the mix.... for Decomposed Radio 088.

Push on!!!!!

Welcome to a very special Decomposed Radio 3rd anniversary show! Just over 3 years ago, I had a bit of a mad "eureka" type moment when I realised just how much amazing musical talent that I was surrounded by in my extended circle of friends, family and artists that I'd been lucky enough to share the decks with at some amazing events and parties over the years, and decided to create a podcast with the aim of showcasing some of these talented individuals. Decomposed Radio was born, and since then it's snowballed along nicely, and I'm really proud of the collection of amazing artists and mixes that we've accumulated, and made accessible to people. For the third anniversary show, it was always gonna have to be something pretty special, and I wanted to put together something a bit different, so I roped in Decomposed radio favourite DJ Galup, also know as Sam Whittaker, for a special B2B mix alongside myself. We got psyched and got the beers in, turned up the speaker volume and with no real plan just dived headlong straight into a freestyle 2 hour recording session that seemed to fly by in no time! I'm really happy with the end result, which is a full excursion through some great and varied techno records, with each of us reading each others mind with track selection at times and randomly jumping into the mix to layer in extra tracks and effects to spice things up! It's also a bit of a battle between the light and the darkness, with us both pulling in different directions throughout the two hours, which hopefully gives it a good dynamic, and keeps it interesting. Huge huge thanks to all the listeners for your support, pyche and encouragement over the years. Please please keep sharing and spreading the word, it really does help us do what we do!! So now.....Decomposed Radio presents...... Galup vs GusN8r.....a special back 2 back mix for the 3 year anniversary show! It's not going off.......it's gone off.......

Decomposed Radio Podcast - DECOMPOSED RADIO PODCAST #091: SAM'S PIANO TAPE SIDE 1
play

06/06/24 • 46 min

For Decomposed Radio show 091 we're rewinding back to the early 90's.

The dole and Stoney Dale scene of the 80's has given way to bolts in Chee Dale and sport climbing trips to Buoux or Ceuse, whilst the gritstone lies asleep, waiting for the release of Hard Grit a few years later to re-awaken the psyche.

Bouldering is in it's infancy, and nobody has even heard of a crash pad, however...... there is another new and growing scene reaching fever pitch around Hunter's Bar... RAVING!!

Dance music has yet to really split into it's sub genres, but by far the most fun and main focus for the time was "happy hardcore" and "bouncy techno." If there didn't happen to be on the infamous "Foundry parties" happening, gags of climbers could be seen piling ito 205 GTI's, giddy with excitement and heading off for all nighters such as the BYO in Doncaster, or Vibalite in Mansfield. Pre instgram, facebook, CDJ's and Traktor, one take vinyl mixes were carefully and lovingly recorded on C90 cassettes. Sam Townsend, and student in Manchester at the time had brought such a mixtape back home to Hathersage where it resided at his holiday job behind the counter at Outside.

Simply known as "Sam's Piano Tape" it became a massive favourite with the crew there and before long, it seemed that half the Sheffield climbing scene had a copy! Despite the kudos Sam earned, he guiltily admits it wasn't his wizardry behind the decks, but that of his mate Sunil's with whom he's long since lost tough. (If you're out there listening Sunil.. RESPECT!!!)

Luckily the tape survived despite hundreds of plays, and Sam's managed to get it digitised and cleaned up. So here it is for your listening pleasure.... get your white gloves out, crack out the glow sticks, shout out to the whistle posse and get your hands in the air... for Sam's Piano Tape side 1, on Decomposed Radio #091........

01/21/19 • 112 min

You're back with Decomposed Radio. For today's show we're again rewinding to an amazing night of mayhem and music at the infamous "Works Party" at Plug in Sheffield back in December.

This time around we have Decomposed Radio big boss, GusN8r, who's tough and frantic set between 4 and 6am closed out the main event, before we headed for round 2 at the afterparty! It was an incredible feeling to cue up a first track and look out across a dark dancefloor, only for a light to flash illuminating hundreds of people, including many close friends getting ready to go crackers and share some epic moments together.

So hopefully you enjoy this mix as much as we did putting it together and reliving it! Standby standy for Gus Hudgins, live in the mix at Plug, Sheffield....

Decomposed Radio Podcast - DECOMPOSED RADIO PODCAST #082: HATTOM

Welcome back to lockdown with Decomposed Radio! Once upon a time in Sheffield, 2 Spanish climbers came to visit and get amongst the unique scene that a lot of us know and love so well. They became affectionately know as "Spanish Number One" and "Spanish Number Two" and stayed for a year or two having a great time enjoying both climbing and epic techno nights! Even after their return to Spain, they once came back to visit for one amazing night to see Ben Klock at Fabric in London, before getting the plane back at 8am, which gives you some idea of the psyche and commitment of these lads, also known as Unai and 8c Kev. On the back of their experience in the UK, Unai even opened a wall back in Spain, called "The Climb" which is an awesome little slice of Sheffield all that way away in Madrid! So when Spanish Number 2 recently got in touch recommending a talented friend for Decomposed Radio, I knew we were onto a winner as these guys are definitely techno connoisseurs.

So, on that note...Enter "Hattom" who's been an established techno DJ since 1999, and is a veteran of tons of underground techno parties and club nights in Madrid. He's recorded a phenomenal dark mix of deep, ambient, industrial and tough techno, with everything in between. It's another real sonic journey with incredible sounds and atmospheres, all set to be a podcast favourite. So big up to the legends over in Madrid, and thanks to Jakob for the fantastic mix. This is Decomposed Radio, keeping it international, with "Hattom" on show number 82.........

Welcome back to Decomposed Radio. Here in Sheffield we're still reeling and recovering from the outrageous "Works Party" last weekend. The main event at one of Sheffield's best venues "Plug" nightclub, aswell as the afterparty at a secret Sheffield location were both absolutely incredible and the weekend was well and truly full to bursting with awesome music, fun and mischief! Every DJ on the lineup really stepped up to the mark and played outstanding sets, and I'm very very happy to say that we managed to record all the muisc in the main room, so expect to hear those mixes on Decomposed Radio over the next few weeks!

First up from this selection is our special guest for the night, Kelvin Briscall, who's a really accomplished DJ and producer, having made appearances behind the decks at all of London's landmark clubs, aswell as holding down residencies in Ibiza, and playig legendary gigs alongside Groove Armada on Bondi Beach!

After years of playing vinyl, he was one of the earliest adopters of digital DJing, and these days he uses a blend of production and DJ setups, controlled with a unique concoction of self built hardware meaning he has loops, effects, multiple decks and drum machines at his fingertips. In addition to all this, and especially for this mix, he's managed to mix the audio from his set with the live sound of the crowd at Plug last Friday night, so if you missed out you can feel like you were really there, or maybe re-live some memories if you were on the dancefloor in the main room! So turn it up, and get lost in this multi-genre mix from Kelvin Briscall, for Decomposed Radio 058.........

play

04/01/17 • 86 min

For Decomposed Radio show number 21 we're firmly back on the techno trip with an incredible mix from "Blanca."

A resident of Sheffield for quite a while, Blanca now lives in the US, where he's working on the launch of his own vinyl imprint (watch this space!!) After growing up within the UK Garage and Drum & Bass scenes of the North, after landing in Sheffield, it wasn't long before he was exposed to the Techno scene here, and it began to shape his sound into what it is today, featuring different tempos and experimental sounds, combined with all of his original influences.

The outstanding sonic journey that he's provided for show 21 features a wicked blend of tracks from across the techno spectrum, both recent and past, and also includes several unreleased tracks from Blanca himself, all of which build into a solid crescendo of deep, heads down techno!

For more information on Blanca, and his music, check out www.soundcloud/blanca as well as www.facebook.com/blancadnb where you can find info on upcoming gigs, productions and releases, such as his forthcoming 12" on Berlin's "Ismus" label, which is a collaboration with Brighton's "Akinsa" Feel free to leave us feedback on this, and all the other shows on the Decomposed Radio Facebook page, or on iTunes.

We're a little late putting out show number 18, so to make up for it, we have an extra special double whammy of groovy house and techno for you, featuring the last of our live recordings from the infamous "Works party" in December 2016. This time up we're lucky enough to have two sets, back to back as they happened on the night, from two exceptional DJ's that always do an incredible job of getting the party from a standstill to full speed in no time whatsoever: "HAAAYZ" and "HORSE"

Otherwise know as Chloe Hay, and Simon Wilson, these two have become a real pillar of this annual party that we couldn't do without. Their individual styles are always really well received by the crowd, with HAAAYZ guaranteed to dish out some varied beats that speak to her roots in Bass music and DnB, whilst always keeping a solid four to the floor vibe, and HORSE always offering some groovy and uplifting house, tech house and classic techno. So turn the volume up double loud for this double header from Decomposed Radio Show #018 featuring a live recording of sets from HAAAYZ and HORSE, at CODE Warehouse, Sheffield, in late 2016!
