Decentralized AI: Shaping Digital Autonomy
11/14/23 • 92 min
In this episode we explore the current state of AI anchored by our Decentralized perspective via a conversation with our guest Dr G. We start off by taking a look at who are the current power players in the AI space from OpenAI, Microsoft, Google and X's Gronk as we look at who is involved in shaping the next phase of AI tools, adoption, and regulation.
We then examine promising open sourced AI models, which of course align with our Decentralized vision. Starting by examining Meta's foray into AI and their somewhat surprisingly open-sourced launch of Llama and as well as the exciting progress of the French model, Mistral. We also touch on the current bottleneck within the space tied to computational power in the form of GPUs as well as how Bitcoin, Lightning and Nostr can play a role in creating open-sourced AI solutions.
The recent Biden executive order related to AI provides a springboard into the discussion of who has the most to gain from potential regulatory capture as well as how AI could potentially impact the upcoming US election via deep fakes and misinformation. The notion that the AI space can learn from Crypto's experience navigating regulation and advocacy is also explored as well as how AI and Crypto can work together.
Data becomes a focus in the analysis as we understand the asset that it becomes within the computing layers and the potential for Nostr to play a large role in a more decentralized AI environment. We also explore challenges tied to motivating people to lend some of their computing to further decentralization and look at SETI as a potential model. Ways in which we can support open-source Decentralized AI is also covered. The opportunities to run an AI model locally are also touched on including Ollama and Mistral. The notion that Chat GPT has actually become less intelligent as it has become more widely adopted leading the discussion to touch on RLHF and ultimately the parallels between AI and Crypto.
