In this excerpt from our episode about the potential U.S. TikTok ban, Chris and I dive into what I think is one of the most common pitfalls of online entrepreneurship. Many content creators and online coaches out there rely solely on platforms like TikTok and Instagram to support their businesses. And with a potential TikTok ban looming, we have to remember that these platforms are ultimately out of our control. Even if TikTok doesn’t end up going away, you never know what kind of algorithm changes might affect your reach. In this clip, I urge online entrepreneurs to find a way to transfer their audiences over to an independent platform - like an email list – and I walk some of the younger folks through a bit of a history lesson of how the internet economy has changed over the last 25 years.
For more on how creators can build up their businesses without depending entirely on social media, check out the full episode here: https://youtu.be/vTd6g6PsR7Y?si=9mXmanHUvVxU2iQH
Key takeaways:
- Social media platforms can disappear completely – you need to find a way to transfer your audience to a platform you can actually control
- Email lists are one of the most powerful tools in marketing...don’t listen to the naysayers
- Social media is an incredibly valuable tool to direct traffic to your platform, but it can’t be your only source of business

Episode Overview:
In this episode of "Dare to Launch," hosts Chris Saunders and Jeff Walker are joined by Mike Michalowicz. Mike is an entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and author known for his innovative approaches to profitable business practices. His latest book, "All In," focuses on creating and leading high-performing teams. We’re big fans of Mike’s work and this new book is no exception. In today’s episode, Chris and Jeff pick Mike’s brain on his secret to employee training and development in 2024. Mike’s success has everything to do with the way he’s treated his employees over the years, and while his methodology might seem straightforward, it’s actually pretty revolutionary in solving employee retention issues. And it works! When Mike walks into the office, his employees don’t suddenly go dead quiet. And that’s because he builds a safe, comfortable dynamic with his team. He’s realized over time that when we force employees to comply, they will seek to defy. We need to redefine our relationships with our employees and understand how supporting their individual goals and happiness is beneficial for everyone involved. If we trust and support them, they’ll do the same for us. Mike has implemented key strategies to help his employees grow through his companies, often to the point where they end up evolving out of their current roles and moving onto new opportunities. And this is actually a net positive for any company as Mike sees it! The best way to get your team to buy into your goals is to support their goals on an individual level. Company growth and employee growth should operate in tandem, and Mike has tons of fun stories to show how and why that’s the case.

Key Topics Discussed:
- Mike Michalowicz's Background: Introduction of Mike as the force behind several multi-million dollar companies and the author of influential books like "Profit First" and "All In."
- The Genesis of "All In": How the challenges of the pandemic led Mike to prioritize writing "All In," focusing on overcoming difficulties in team dynamics, such as recruiting issues and the shift from desired to demanded workplace flexibility.
- Leadership and Learning: Mike discusses his journey from struggling leader to a more competent one, emphasizing that the best leaders often teach what they need to learn themselves.
- Employee Dreams and Aspirations: The importance of understanding and nurturing employees' individual dreams to inspire and retain top talent. Mike shares practical steps and examples of how to implement this in any business.
- Cultural and Tactical Adjustments for Remote Teams: Strategies for maintaining a strong team culture and high engagement, even with remote team members.
- Real-Life Examples from Mike's Experience: Mike shares anecdotes, including a memorable moment involving unconventional underwear choices during a critical business operation.
Key Takeaways
- Many people in the workforce have forgotten how to dream. We need to relearn the capacity to dream. Understand your employees’ dreams and figure out how to attach them to the work that they’re doing.
- The typical mindset is “Do what you need to do at work. Your life is your life.” We’ve transcended that in 2024. What you do at work should help you progress your life goals.
- Helping your employees get to the next level means that they might leave you. But that’s a good thing! Great leaders help people in their growth towards what they really want to do. It’s a fluid experience through the company.
- If you treat employees well, they’ll put the word out for you when they leave.
- We need to hire employees based on their potential. You don’t need to be looking for people who are rockstars now, you want to find the people who will be rockstars very soon.

The first time I met some of my clients in person, I was pretty nervous. I had my Product Launch Formula program that I KNEW was going to help them. But still, there was this little voice that wondered if they’d think I was a fraud.
Anyway, I eventually got up the courage to talk to a few of those clients... they told me about their experience with PLF, and I was blown away. Frankly, hearing those first few stories changed my whole approach to how I talk about PLF. Here’s what happened...

In this special episode, I finally reveal the big project I’ve been holding back for six months – the BRAND NEW, completely reimagined version of my Product Launch Formula (PLF).
This is the biggest evolution in the 19-year history of PLF. And to celebrate Chris and I are taking you behind the scenes of our creation process, from redesigning the program from scratch to adapting it for today’s fast-paced digital world.
You’ll learn what it takes to build a truly world-class online course, the surprising shifts in launch strategies over the years, and why PLF continues to stay at the cutting edge for new and seasoned entrepreneurs alike.
You’ll also discover:
- The Surprising Secret to Selling Without “Selling”: Why you don’t need to be a master salesperson to run a successful launch (19 years later, and I STILL don’t think of myself as a “natural” salesperson!)
- Why Less Is More: Find out why we slashed the course length in HALF – without sacrificing any of the impact.
- A New Twist on the “Thud Factor”: With the new PLF, we ditched the days of jam-packed, information-heavy courses and embraced a sleek, streamlined approach. Here’s why.
- A Shortcut for Course Creators: I share a low-risk strategy you can use to start teaching online that will build your confidence and real-world skills fast (even if you’re brand new!)

The Unstoppable Mindset w/ Elliott Connie - DTL #3
Dare to Launch
10/24/23 • 80 min
What are some of the traits the most successful people across different industries share? And what can you do in your journey toward success?
Co-hosts Jeff Walker and Chris Saunders are joined by therapist, author, and speaker Elliott Connie to discuss all things mindset.
They discuss the importance of resilience and love, why a growth mindset shouldn’t be focused on following other people’s steps, and the biggest decision you can ever make.
Also in this week's show:
- What one of the world’s best comedians can teach you about becoming unbreakable (it’s easier than you think – one decision is all it takes)
- How Elliott “reinvented” himself from being an unsatisfied therapist working one-on-one with clients... to helping thousands of people all over the world (he lays out the exact steps he took)
- The simple mental reframe that transforms pressure from something that paralyzes you... into a catalyst that inspires you to take action
- Why a Hollywood celebrity still takes acting classes alongside unknown actors every week, despite earning millions of dollars... and why you should follow suit if you want to be successful
- Is there an “ideal” mindset for launching? Elliott suggests one that practically guarantees you’ll be successful
- Should you compare yourself to your competition... or who you were yesterday? How about neither? I think you’ll be inspired when you discover what Elliott chases instead
- Why Jeff wrote 252 emails every year for 8 years... and what it reveals about building resilience
- Could this four-letter word be the most successful business strategy? (Hint: it’s not “cash”, “sale”, or “work”)
- How Michael Jordan can help you turn your weaknesses into your biggest strengths
- What you should copy from successful entrepreneurs... and what you should NEVER copy
... and much more.

Leadership w/ Annie Hyman Pratt - DTL #30
Dare to Launch
09/17/24 • 70 min
Join Chris and me in welcoming Annie Hyman Pratt to the show this week! As the CEO of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, she grew the company from a small family business into an international brand, overseeing its high-value sale. Today Annie is the founder of Leading Edge Teams, one of the top leadership and team development consulting firms in the world. She has also been a member of my Platinum Plus Mastermind for years, and I’ve brought her on board time and time again to improve the way my team communicates and operates. In today’s chat, she guides us through some of the key components of her approach. The central focus is how our survival instincts tend to cause problems in our businesses, and what we can do to mitigate those primal reactions. When it comes to conflict negotiation, team leadership, and organizational structure, Annie is the go-to expert.
Find more from Annie at: https://leadingedgeteams.com
Book a Discovery Call: https://leadingedgeteams.com/schedule-a-discovery-call/
Key topics discussed:
- Self-Protection: Annie explains why employees sometimes act from a place of self-protection, which negates much of their critical thinking capacity.
- Building a Leadership Team: To ever have a chance of removing yourself from the day-to-day, you need to assemble a strong core of leaders across all departments..
- Organizational Simplicity: As Annie sees it, many companies try to do too much too soon, which sabotages their profits.
Key takeaways:
- Leadership starts at the top. As the founder of the company, you can’t operate from a place of emotional reactivity.
- You can’t do everything yourself forever. You need to build up a team that can actually do everything themselves, without any micro-managing or hand-holding.
- Give your employees an opportunity to impress you. If you’re micromanaging them, they’ll never be able to come into their own.
