1. Roska on touring, worst gigs and how to learn from setbacks

In this first episode, Emily Dust sits down with UK Funky pioneer Roska. A producer and DJ from London who runs the label Roska Kicks and Snares, he's been a stalwart of the scene since the 00s. His own productions have seen him work alongside the likes of Flowdan, MC GQ, Serocee, Jammz and Aleisha Lee. As a label boss he's been a consistent supporter of new talent including Murder He Wrote, DJ Polo and established names on the scene like Champion, DJ Naughty and Hardhouse Banton. As a DJ he continues to tour all over the world including Asia, Europe and America.

He share memories of being part of a scene in those early days before it got defined, how touring with Toddla T compares to touring solo, the best clubs to play in China, Japan and London and he shares the story of his worst ever gig which unfortunately happened in a legendary club. He also describes how to gain confidence from setbacks, the role of MCs in dance music and whether DJs should share their tracklistings.

DJ Paulette on longevity, the Hacienda and equality

This episode features a bonafide legend! If you've heard of one UK club it's probably the Hacienda. DJ Paulette was one of the only female residents at legendary queer night Flesh, kicking off a multi-decade-spanning career that's taken in residencies in Ibiza, London and Paris and regularly playing alongside the likes of David Guetta and Bob Sinclair. Her journey hasn't always been smooth; in her new book 'Welcome To The Club' she discusses the sexism, racism, ageism and homophobia that she's had to overcome. Despite this Paulette remains as optimistic and passionate about the power of DJing as ever and talks about the new generation of black female DJs like Jamz Supernova, Jaguar, Anz and our very own Erica McKoy have inspired her.

A must-listen for anyone in music wanting to build a long-term career, Paulette reveals how to read a room, how to overcome quiet periods and why sometimes it's problematic to have an identical twin to step in for you...
