In this first episode, Emily Dust sits down with UK Funky pioneer Roska. A producer and DJ from London who runs the label Roska Kicks and Snares, he's been a stalwart of the scene since the 00s. His own productions have seen him work alongside the likes of Flowdan, MC GQ, Serocee, Jammz and Aleisha Lee. As a label boss he's been a consistent supporter of new talent including Murder He Wrote, DJ Polo and established names on the scene like Champion, DJ Naughty and Hardhouse Banton. As a DJ he continues to tour all over the world including Asia, Europe and America.
He share memories of being part of a scene in those early days before it got defined, how touring with Toddla T compares to touring solo, the best clubs to play in China, Japan and London and he shares the story of his worst ever gig which unfortunately happened in a legendary club. He also describes how to gain confidence from setbacks, the role of MCs in dance music and whether DJs should share their tracklistings.

Jamz Supernova on balancing motherhood and DJing, race and representation and touring

When Jamz Supernova was younger she dreamed of becoming a TV presenter, it was through this curiosity that she discovered a real passion for radio and DJing. She is a label head, radio host, DJ, podcaster and overall tastemaker. She started her career on the online radio station, Reprezent before moving on to BBC Radio 1Xtra which won the Best Specialist Aria Gold award in 2021. She currently hosts a weekly show on BBC 6Music.
In this episode Jamz talks to Emily about balancing motherhood whilst being a touring DJ. She also talks about race and representation in the industry and how her early years felt whitewashed and how she gets hands on and plans her own tours!
