Article On The Interview: https://atlasgeographica.com/jack-weatherford-genghis-khan/
Jack Weatherford is an American author and academic who has positioned the relevancy and importance of Genghis Khan front and centre of Western consciousness and pop culture.
Jack is the recipient of the 'Order Of The Polar Star' which is Mongolia's highest national honour for foreigners. He is the author of many brilliant books, the most notable of which is half the subject of today's conversation - Genghis Khan & The Making Of The Modern World.
My conversation with Jack Weatherford can be broken down into three sections.
A Bit About Jack, Mongolian Culture, Economy & Politics.
A Bit About Genghis Khan & How He Shaped The Modern World.
A Bit About Genghis Khan & A Bit About Mongolia - How Do They Influence One Another?
Ultimately I am extraordinarily humbled by this opportunity I had with Jack Weatherford. He was generous with his time and also with his candidness. He is an inspiration to me and also I imagine anyone else out there with a lofty ambition to write something that genuinely leaves its mark.

Listen To This Interview As A Podcast Instead๐ŸŽ™๏ธ: https://atlasgeographica.com/interview-special-economic-zones/

Both Preston & Aleksa work for the Special Economic Zone consultancy firm, The Adrianople Group, of which Preston is a co-founder. We covered so much in this chat โ€“ most notably, what are special economic zones? I wrote an article explaining, in brief, an introduction to these phenomena of globalisation and multinational trade, but it is in this conversation I had with Preston & Aleksa that the true depth of Special Economic Zones starts to be realised.

Over 60% of the world's trade runs through a Special Economic Zone and these are spaces whose regulations fall outside of the state's regulations within the country they are housed. So you can immediately see a story of tax evasion and exploitation. But this is to quick and un-nuanced a look at things, it turns out Special Economic Zones (like many things) are subject to both the good and the bad, and things of such complexity are worth thinking about.

My favourite part of the chart was all of it! But that doesnโ€™t help you point out highlights. So in short I would say the following three subjects make up the best parts of the conversation.

  • The Philosophy Of Special Economic Zones
  • China & Itโ€™s History With Special Economic Zones
  • Defining Special Economic Zones Through Real-Life Examples

Friedrich Nietzsche is one of the greatest and sharpest philosophers of all time. Nietzsche's ideas, Nietzsche's quotes and Nietzsche's philosophy has proven to be truly Lindy as it is permeated again and again through the culture. In this podcast, I trace the timeline of Nietzsche's life while Stephen Hicks provides all the context and explanation of Nietzsche's philosophy as it develops throughout his life.

Together, we traced Nietzsche's timeline up until the big inflection point, just as Nietzsche has published Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

Curious Worldview Podcast - 53: John Kaag | Hiking With Nietzsche & The Journey To Becoming Who You Are
play

11/06/21 โ€ข 73 min

Article Attached To This Podcast ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ: https://atlasgeographica.com/john-kaag-nietzsche/

John Kaag and his magnificent book, Hiking With Nietzsche, is the subject of this episode of the podcast.

The book is a decompression on two journeys, separated by 15 years. John journeyed to Sils Maria - this beautiful mountainous village in Switzerland where Nietzsche published, what some would claim as his masterpiece, a fictional title - Thus Spoke Zarathustra - which is, of course, an allegory on becoming who you are.

In this podcast with John Kaag On Hiking With Nietzsche, you can expect to hear about some of the following. ...

  • How philosophers romanticise to the point of worship, walking.
Nietzsche being misinterpreted later in life.
The impossible trade-off between fostering a family and pursuing the individual path.
Nietzsche's commentary on killing ones own father - metaphorically of course.
And finally - nothing to serious, just how John responds to being asked what his life purpose is
