Curious Tourism: Responsible Travel Podcast
Last season we did an episode where Erin chatted with her partner Lucas and you seemed to really enjoy it. This time, we asked Chris and Bri from TravelingMitch and the podcast Rick Steves Over Brunch to join us in discussing #travelcouples and dissecting what travel instagrammers are really selling.
We also discuss culture shock and what it means to experience it and how to deal with it. Maybe we actually experience culture shock the most when we come home...
Guest: Chris Mitchell and Bri Mitchell
Chris Mitchell: Canadian travel writer and influencer who has been to over 75 countries. I live to share stories and tips with my readers and followers at TravelingMitch.com.
Podcast: Rick Steves Over Brunch, a podcast where Stephanie Craig (from History Fangirl) and Chris Mitchell break down episodes of the classic travel TV show, Rick Steve’s Europe.
Ultimate Ontario for niche Ontario travel.
Bri Mitchell: Canadian travel and lifestyle writer and travel industry professional. Bri also does a significant amount of work alongside Chris for the travelingmitch brand.

S2 Ep38: Voluntourism and No White Saviors

How many travelers do you see posting “poverty porn” to their social accounts, and, is this okay? Erin chats with Wendy and Olivia from @NoWhiteSaviors about voluntourism, the white savior complex, and how white travelers, celebrities, and influencers can do better when traveling in Africa.
The tagline of the @NoWhiteSaviors Instagram account reads, “We never said no to white people. We just know you shouldn’t be the hero of the story. If you’re not uncomfortable, you’re not listening.” In today's episode it is time to listen, so that as travelers and humanitarians, we can do better.
No White Saviors is an advocacy campaign led by a majority female, majority African team of professionals based in Kampala, Uganda. Their collective experience in the development and aid sectors have led them towards a deep commitment to seeing things move towards a more equitable, anti-racist direction.
Guest: Olivia and Wendy of No White Saviors, the umbrella advocacy campaign giving birth to Kusimama Africa, the hands-on work in Uganda.

S2 Ep40: Should We Feel #FLYSHAME?

Did you know that in Sweden, flying is NOT something to be proud of? The notion that you should feel guilty every time you board a plane is a feeling plaguing Scandinavia.
In this first part of our two part sustainable travel series, we're joined by Evelina Utterdahl, an environmentalist, climate activist, and sustainable traveler who publically pledged to stop flying entirely. We discuss what impact flying has on the environment and how we can reduce this impact. We also explore the nuance of #FlyShame: the privilege and accessibility that's needed to give up flying altogether.
Guest: Evelina Utterdahl
Travel writer focused on travel that doesn't cost the earth.
