Philanthropy's Support for Youth in Africa: Issues and Considerations

Niamani Mutima hosts this monthly audio newsletter produced by the Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group (AGAG) that shares information about philanthropy support for organizations working in communities across Africa.

In this episode, we discuss philanthropy's support for youth in Africa. We highlight useful surveys and reports on youth-related issues. We hear from a young activist who shares the challenges facing young people when funders and donors invite them to participate in different spaces. The director of a youth-focused organization shares how "young hubs" are helping to address philanthropy's reluctance to support youth activists working in alternative organizing spaces. We conclude with a comment from the author of an article about young people's innovative use of digital space expertise and encourages philanthropy to take advantage of the opportunities that Africa's majority youth population presents to make an impact across sectors and interests.
