Curating Sobriety - Navigating Early Sobriety and Creating an Intentional Life

Navigating Early Sobriety and Creating an Intentional Life

07/13/23 • 8 min

Curating Sobriety

Navigating early sobriety is quite challenging, especially in a world where drinking alcohol is so prevalent. To evade questions like why you don't drink, sober people might start avoiding certain places, events, or people. Slowly but surely, they'll narrow their world and shrink; they stop living fully.

I'm Andrea Bell, Certified Professional Life Coach, Integrative Nutrition & Health Coach, Certified Gray Area Drinking Coach, and, more importantly, I have been sober for 11 years. We are the creators of our experiences, and with the proper support, we can create intentional and fulfilling lives, and achieve sustained sobriety and a life we genuinely desire.

Being sober is not about constantly reminding yourself about your past or embracing "being broken" as your identity. You can change your thinking, focus on your personal growth, reflect less on your past, and create plans for your future.

Tune in and listen to the first episode of Curating Sobriety. I invite you to join me every week to find resources and support, and a platform for conversations about enjoying life without alcohol.

In This Episode, You Will Learn:

  • A bit about my background (0:47)
  • What therapy or AA groups can’t provide for sober people (1:25)
  • “Being broken” doesn’t have to be your identity (2:44)
  • About the struggles of sober people in a world where drinking is so prevalent (3:10)

Tips and Advice to Navigate Sobriety During Summer Holidays

Do you feel ready to enjoy an alcohol-free summer vacation without compromising your joy and fulfillment?

Whether you stay at home or decide to travel, summer holidays present many environments where alcohol flows freely. Whether you go to social gatherings, parties, events, cocktails, or a friend's house, you'll feel the social pressure to drink. Social pressure to drink might sound childish; still, if you find yourself among people who might not fully understand or support your decision to live alcohol-free, that pressure can be pretty intense.

In today's episode, I share advice and actionable items to help you navigate sobriety during the summer holidays while you enjoy yourself and the company of others. You'll also learn how to deal with the feeling of social isolation we all get when we go against the norm and the fulfilling sentiment of becoming an example to others.

You'll also hear about the importance of being mindful of your thoughts, avoiding ignoring your feelings, and more.

Tune in and listen to the second episode of Curating Sobriety. Your decision to an alcohol-free life is a testament to your strength and an opportunity to educate others about the benefits of sobriety.
