Navigating Early Sobriety and Creating an Intentional Life
Curating Sobriety
07/13/23 • 8 min
Navigating early sobriety is quite challenging, especially in a world where drinking alcohol is so prevalent. To evade questions like why you don't drink, sober people might start avoiding certain places, events, or people. Slowly but surely, they'll narrow their world and shrink; they stop living fully.
I'm Andrea Bell, Certified Professional Life Coach, Integrative Nutrition & Health Coach, Certified Gray Area Drinking Coach, and, more importantly, I have been sober for 11 years. We are the creators of our experiences, and with the proper support, we can create intentional and fulfilling lives, and achieve sustained sobriety and a life we genuinely desire.
Being sober is not about constantly reminding yourself about your past or embracing "being broken" as your identity. You can change your thinking, focus on your personal growth, reflect less on your past, and create plans for your future.
Tune in and listen to the first episode of Curating Sobriety. I invite you to join me every week to find resources and support, and a platform for conversations about enjoying life without alcohol.

Is your life being led by your reactions or by your goals?

In today's episode, we talk about goal setting. I'll teach you a specific process for goal setting, explain why both having a process and goal setting are so important, and why it'll help you evolve and grow. You'll learn why you must allow yourself to dream big, how to prevent your monkey brain from taking control, and more.

How ready are you to embrace discomfort?
The first steps into sobriety feel amazing; it's refreshing and revigorating, and it's pretty easy to fall for the illusion that everything will go our way from now on. With time, that excitement wears off, and we might start encountering the lows we thought we'd never face again, the ones we used to numb with alcohol.
In this episode, I talk about one of the most valuable lessons my mentors and personal experiences taught me: when it comes to positive and negative emotions, life is 50/50. You'll learn to embrace discomfort not only as part of the human experience but as a fundamental part of sobriety and how to find reassurance knowing half of the time, you'll be on the happy side.
Tune in and listen to the third episode of Curating Sobriety. You'll discover that being sober is about opening yourself to experiencing every emotion and the only way of living an authentic life.
In This Episode, You Will Learn:
- What happens when the pink starts evaporating (2:10)
- Discomfort is the price for growth (3:50)
- Negative emotions are part of the human experience (5:30)
- We are responsible for what we think and feel (7:10)
- Being sober is embracing every emotion (9:20)
