Culture Court - 004 - Why a blogger must pay Cardi B $4 million

004 - Why a blogger must pay Cardi B $4 million

05/02/23 • 11 min

Culture Court

One of the best rap lyrics from the last few years is from Cardi B: “people will do anything for clout.”
Blogger Tasha K learned the hard way that clout chasing doesn’t pay.

On the internet, people think they can say whatever they want and get away with it. But when you say ridiculous things about other people...and those things bring actual harm to the person about whom you’re speaking, you might be committing defamation.

Cardi B sued Tasha K because she spread lies on YouTube and social media. After a 2 week jury trial, Tasha K was hit with a $4 million verdict for defamation, invasion of privacy (false light) and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

On this episode, we discuss a perfect defamation case, why defamation is a celebrity trend, and what celebrities are gonna do about it.
