But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.’ - Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City Takeaways: Ways to dive into yourself: Journal your thoughts and feelings Invest time in your hobbies Let yourself feel the feelings- but don’t act on them Spend time with friends and family Seek the support of a mental health professional Resources Mentioned: Therapy for Black Girls Psychology Today Where to find us: Twitter: @HERspacepodcast Instagram: @herspacepodcast Facebook: @herspacepodcast Website: herspacepodcast.com Email: [email protected]

It’s the day after Valentine’s Day. How did you spend the day? Were you focused on others or did you take time to care for yourself? Or was it just another day for you? Hopefully, you did something that made you feel good. In this week’s episode, Dom and Terri dive into the importance of self-care...doing the things (whatever they are) that make you feel good. While self-care is a phrase that seems to be tossed around a lot lately, do we know what it really means? How can we engage in it when we have been socialized to believe that doing so is selfish? Per usual, the ladies provide us with real-life examples from their lives and give us practical ways we can apply it to our own. Self-care is not going to look the same for everyone and shout out to all the ladies finding creative ways to pour into themselves! Remember...equate self-care with what they teach us on the plane- put your own oxygen mask on before you assist others. Quote of the Day: “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” - Audre Lorde Takeaways: “Taking care of yourself = keeping your cup full. If you don’t do things to keep your cup full, you have nothing left to give or share with others.” – Paige Burkes Self-care is not selfish. Just because everyone else is consuming a certain type of content doesn't mean you have to do it. Self-care is unique to each person. It's your decision to figure out and communicate to those around you. Let's not judge others on the self-care tactics they choose. We are the dreams and the hopes of our ancestors. On this day let us take time to reflect on one of the biggest lessons our ancestors could have ever imparted: finding joy. For centuries Black folx have experienced cruelties that are beyond what any human should ever have to endure. However, we have always found ways to celebrate us. In this episode, Terri and Dom explore the meaning of Juneteenth and ways in which we can continue uplift ourselves. Terri is scrolling down her social media timeline and noticed everyone else’s life was lit while hers seemed stagnant. She felt overwhelmed instead of inspired. Dr. Dom reminds Terri of her #BlackGirlMagic but noted a bigger issue...what happens when we don’t reach certain adulting milestones? We tend to engage in negative social comparison (your day 1) based on the highlights of someone else’s life (their day 100). We let other people tell us what we should focus on even if it’s not bringing us fulfillment. Dr. Dom and Terri point out some of the milestones many of us are expected to achieve (the good, the hard, the annoying, the fun) and the strategies we can utilize to be comfortable in our own path. Find your fire and make your own life LIT! Quote of the Day: "Don’t set sail on someone else’s star." - African proverb Takeaways: Your life is yours to create. It won’t look like anyone else’s and that’s okay. Hey lady, this week Dr. Dom and Terri sit down with Cara McNulty, DPA, and President of Behavioral Health and Mental Wellbeing at CVS Health, to have an honest conversation about the real impact of the last three years. The impacts are real and we are just beginning to see the long-lasting effects of multiple major crises on our collective mental health. But, there’s no need for alarm. Mental health professionals have been nimble in adapting to the needs of society to provide care and nurturing as we all navigate uncertain terrain. In fact, according to Cara more than 60 percent of the population CVS recently surveyed are accessing telehealth services as a part of their care plan. Cara offers practical guidance on the way mental health services are becoming more accessible to Black and Brown communities. You don’t want to miss this episode, it’s chock full of helpful information for both the insured and uninsured.
Quote of the Day:
“You need so much more than mental health or “well-being” in this era of discrimination, invisibility, and psychological warfare. You need an impermeable web of protection for your mind.”

Lady, if you're not familiar with Grace then you are probably familiar with her satin-lined caps.
