CYF 071 — mercredi 28 avril 2021 — dégustation de macaron
Cultivate your French : Slow French, at the right pace.
04/28/21 • 6 min
We have been on holidays for two weeks. We were supposed to go one week in Brittany, but because of the new lockdown rules we were not allowed to leave. Our new circle has a diameter of 10 kilometers. A big part of Paris is in our circle.
Pietro, my husband, had to work so the girls and I took our holidays « in Paris ». We did some nice things : having lunch « à emporter », walking rue Réaumur to watch the nice early 20th century buildings, going to the Jardin des plantes, visiting nice bookshops, etc.
And we did a « macarons » afternoon. We did not baked some macarons, we went to by some in famous places in Paris : Ladurée, Carette and Dalloyau. A macaron costs between 2,10 and 2,20 euros. It’s an expensive little cake. We have been nicely welcomed in Ladurée and Carette. But Dalloyau was quite different. The lady literally through the macarons in a paper bag with no respect for their fragility.
Back home, we organized a serious tasting. This is what you are going to hear in today’s episode.

CYF 066 — mercredi 24 mars 2021 — Balade dans le 17e
Cultivate your French : Slow French, at the right pace.
03/24/21 • 6 min
This morning Lisa had an appointment with a cardiologist in the 17 th arrondissement. Nothing serious. The 17 th is not far from our home. We walked to Pont de Levallois and took the métro there, line 3. This morning there was no barges on the Seine when we crossed the bridge. I love when there are péniches. it’s a little game that I invented : le jeu des péniches. If you see one, you win. if you don’t see any, you lose. Well, we lost this morning. Lisa and I got off at Wagram station. We were early for the appointment, so we opened our eyes and watched what was around us. This is what you are going to hear in today’s episode.

CYF 119 — Le petit-déjeuner idéal au BAB, le Bar à brioches (Paris) — mercredi 30 mars 2022
Cultivate your French : Slow French, at the right pace.
03/30/22 • 6 min
Two weeks ago, I had the chance to meet Margaux Aycard, the cheffe that created and runs the Bar à Brioche, a place in Paris dedicated to the brioche. There you could meet the cheffe, and have either sweet or savory brioches for a quick lunch or for breakfast. The Bar à brioches is close to La Gare Saint-Lazare and a few stops away from Les Champs Elysées.
In this episode, Margaux Aycard tells us at what time she bakes her brioches and what could be the ideal breakfast of a listener visiting her place. Miam, miam !
In the notes with the transcript of the podcast, I highlight for you the expressions that are very natural and useful in French. Now, you can tell anybody about your ideal breakfast in French ! !

CYF 096 — mercredi 20 octobre 2021 — Le philosophe à cheval
Cultivate your French : Slow French, at the right pace.
10/20/21 • 6 min
When we were travelling to Brittany, I heard on the radio Gaspard Koening. This philosopher was talking about his trip from Bordeaux to Rome with his horse Destinada. He followed the steps of a colleague from an other time : Michel de Montaigne.
As Montaigne did, he kept a travel diary then he published a book out of it. Later that same day, we entered a nice bookshop in Paimpol where I found that very book « Notre vagabonde liberté ». I bought it and started to read it almost right away. I’m still reading it and as I was reading it, I met an acquaintance. Yes !

Last week-end, I attended my first Kung-fu competition, the Open de France de Wushu. It was a long day. I arrived there, in the 13th arrondissement, at 8 o’clock and I put on my routine at almost 3 o’clock in the afternoon. In this episode, I tell you about my first routine, the bare hands one. Pietro and our 3 girls, some friends and the other club members were there to support me. It was a great moment!

On Monday, Micaela and I went to the Mairie de quartier where we had an appointment to renew her identity card. Micaela should go to Italy with her class at the end of January and her identity card should end at least 6 month before the travel. That what not the case, so we took this appointment. She should get her new card in 2 or 3 weeks.

Cultivate your French : Slow French, at the right pace.

The week was rather calm for us because the girls had a lot of homework to do. Pietro was supposed to be on holidays, but he had to go to work because one of his colleague had a sprain. But on Tuesday evening I found myself alone at home. What did I do? Something I haven’t done for years!

Cultivate your French : Slow French, at the right pace.
01/05/22 • 6 min
Bonne année à tous! Je vous souhaite une très belle et heureuse année 2022! I wish you to keep that sparkle of French in your life and to live nice French moments in 2022.
On the 2nd of January, my friend Isabelle invited me to have a walk with her husband and her in Meudon. This is where we usually go with our nordic walk group. Thierry had the idea to walk in a part of the forest where we don’t usually go with our coach. It was a nice day. We took some nice pictures, we saw a young woman on a golden horse and we suddenly landed on a road.
In today’s notes : special focus on indirect object pronouns.

CYF 088 — Podcast enregistré à La Défense, quartier d’affaires
Cultivate your French : Slow French, at the right pace.
08/25/21 • 6 min
La Défense is a big business district located west of Paris. It’s not far from where I live. It’s only 4 minutes by train. And this is where I was on Monday afternoon. I had taken the girls to the cinema inside the enormous shopping centre. I had two hours to spare so I decided to record this episode right at the foot of the Grande Arche, the building that ends the « axe historique » of Paris. Then I walked and took photos of the different works of art that I had just mentioned in the episode. Including the statue of La Défense by Barrias which gave its name to the district. It was erected in 1883 to the glory of the French soldiers of the 1870 war with Prussia.

You know that France has been placed on lockdown for a month now. The ambiance is very different than the first lockdown : people can go working, our children go to school. From our windows, life is almost normal. I can see the trains going to Paris, there are buses and cars on the road, there are people in the streets. Last week, Emmanuel Macron, our president, made a live TV appearance to speak about the easing of lowdown in France. he annoucened that lockdown would be until december 15 th and he also announced changes in restrictions. In this episode, I tell you about our new life under lockdown and my new favourite sentence.
