Internal Family Systems with my Sister Bethany Faden #59
Crystal Zinn Podcast
05/07/24 • 50 min
There’s an incredible tool my sister shared with me last year that has helped me navigate unconscious behaviors and reclaim all my parts. (The little Crystals) as she calls them.
I was so excited when Bethany agreed to do this podcast with me because we have these deep conversations over Marco Polo all the time -and you get a little glimpse into them now!!
Bethany is my younger sister by 1 year and 11 months and we have had every kind of relationship you can imagine between siblings lol. She has always been intuitive, fun, loves animals, and a loyal friend. After she left her corporate career she started her own business that has been extremely successful, allowing for her to provide employment and learning for so many people, and also allowing for her husband to quit his job and come work for her! And the best reflection and personal learning thus far. As most entrepreneurial pursuits are! IYKYK It’s been a privilege to watch who she is and what she creates in this life.
Listen as we share personal stories, therapy sessions, and deep self discovery through the internal family systems practice we learned from “Greater Than The Sum of Our Parts” by Richard C. Schwartz

Vital Role of Deep Sleep in Health with Tyler Higgins #55
Crystal Zinn Podcast
03/20/24 • 43 min
“What's the single most important thing that you could do for your health that doesn't cost anything? That we all have access to that research shows has positive effects on every single thing in your body, from internal organ systems to mental illness to chronic disease. It's sleep." - Crystal Zinn
Tyler Higgins, a sleep coach at a mattress company, draws on his background in entrepreneurship and experiences growing up in Liberty, Mississippi, to educate others on the importance of deep restorative sleep for emotional and physical healing. With a passion for helping people find the right mattresses using innovative technology, Tyler emphasizes the significance of quality sleep for natural healing. Alongside his dedication to improving sleep quality, Tyler is happily married to his wife Becca and is open to sharing his personal story to encourage others to prioritize their well-being through restful sleep routines.
Summary: Research indicates that sleep is critical for overall health, significantly impacting internal organ systems, mental disease, and chronic disease. REM sleep is particularly essential for cognitive functions, longevity, and emotional well-being. The first half of the night tends to prioritize deep sleep, while the second half focuses on REM sleep. Studies suggest that REM sleep is a predictor of lifespan and is crucial for learning, memory, and emotional processing. Deep sleep is key for physical restoration, muscle repair, blood pressure regulation, and overall health. Melatonin signals the body to prepare for sleep but does not directly induce or maintain sleep. Exposure to natural light can aid in aligning with our body's circadian rhythm for better sleep health. The sleep industry is leveraging technology, like smart beds and mattresses, to enhance sleep quality. These include features like sound wave massages, sleep tracking, and temperature monitoring. The creation of an optimal sleep environment, through understanding circadian rhythms and utilizing sleep technology, can promote healing and restful sleep.
REM sleep is crucial for cognitive functions, longevity, and emotional well-being.
- Deep sleep influences muscle recovery, blood pressure regulation, insulin levels, and metabolism.
- Understanding the significance of sleep on health can lead to better sleep habits and improved overall well-being.
- REM sleep is a predictor of lifespan and deficiencies can lead to shorter lifespans.
- Prioritizing REM sleep is key to promoting longevity and maintaining optimal physical and mental health.
- Melatonin signals the body to prepare for sleep but does not directly induce or maintain sleep.- Light exposure, especially blue light from screens, negatively impacts circadian rhythms and sleep patterns.
