When the colony's founder left to go get supplies, he never intended on being gone three years. But John White thought that he'd find the colonists just as he left them. Except when he returned, they weren't there at all. With only the word "CROATOAN" carved on a post, he had no time or ability to search for them on the neighboring island. As a result, the Lost Colonists of Roanoke became America's first unsolved mystery. Did they die? Were they killed by the Spanish? Indigenous people in the area? Aliens? BIGFOOT? The answer can never be definitive, but we have a pretty good guess...
