Ep. 163: True Crime: The Murder of Mary Ellen Deener
Crime and Roses
02/24/22 • 48 min
5.0
It’s Black History Month, and we are focusing on stories from the Black community.
Last week we saw Clayton give a ... strange response to Teddi saying she was a virgin. That led us into a conversation about what a virgin “looks like.” We also discuss the sexualization of black girls.
This week Danielle gives us more information about the over-sexualization of black girls in this country, with information from a recent study.
She also tells us about the murder of Mary Ellen Deener. Her killer was caught the very next day, only to be released from prison to go Christmas shopping in 1973, to never return.
Lester Eubanks, who now is in his mid-70s, was described as a 5-foot-11-inch male with black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he weighed approximately 175 pounds. Other unique physical characteristics include a mole under his left eye.
Anyone who has information on Eubanks is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service tip line at 866-4-WANTED.
CONTENT WARNING: Child murder and child sexual assault. (Story Starts at: 3:43).
We were given exclusive early access to the new season of Forensic Files II, Season 3, on HLN. Ep. 159: The Murders of Harry and Harriette Moore
Crime and Roses
02/10/22 • 49 min
5.0
It’s Black History Month, and we are focusing on stories from the Black community.
Last week the show took us to a place they called an “international” destination, but it turned out to be Houston, Texas. In the case Megan tells today, one of the victims was born in Houston, Florida.
Megan tells the story of husband and wife Harry and Harriette Moore, who were the first couple to be killed in the Civil Rights Movement. Harry was the first NAACP official to be killed in the movement. The Moore’s murder was also very closely tied to the story of the Groveland Four, documented in the “Devil in the Grove” by Gilbert King.
CONTENT WARNING: race motivated murder, brief mention of sexual assault, brief mention of suicide. (Story Starts at: 6:33).

We made it y'all! We finished season 26 of The Bachelor. Thank you for sticking with us. On the finale and After the Final Rose (ATFR) we saw the conclusion of the segment that has been teased all season long when we saw Clayon tell Gabby and Rachel that he was in love and was intimate with both of them. In addition, we see Clayton basically living a double life, telling Gabby and Rachel he was in love with them and telling Susie he loved her the most.
This week Danielle tells you of a traditional love triangle, with a twist. Jennifer Ji came to live the American Dream, with her rich and successful boyfriend. The only problem was, her boyfriend also had a wife and kids in the next town over. Every second of this high-profile case was covered by the media in the US and China. The entire story ends in a way that no one could see coming.
(Story Starts at: 8:16)
CONTENT WARNING: Child murder

Ep. 178 True Crime: The Murder of Alan Berg
Crime and Roses
05/12/22 • 38 min
5.0
We are still on a break from the Bachelor, but connecting our stories to the franchise. Stagecoach 2022 was held at the end of April, it’s a country music festival that Bachelor Nation always seems to flock to. This year, Blake Hortsmann (aka Balaockaye), performed as a DJ, and the crowd seemed to love it. Blake and Stagecoach also had a whole storyline on Bachelor In Paradise Season 6. This week’s story is for Blake, who calls Denver, Colorado home with a dope roommate Elyse!
This week, Megan tells the story of the murder of Alan Berg. Alan was an outspoken Jewish talk radio host, whose show on KOA AM 850 in Denver could be heard in over 30 states. Sources say that Alan had an abrasive on-air personality, and was always ready to call out anti-Semitism and other forms of racism. Unfortunately, this made him a target of a white supremacist group, the Order.
(Story Starts at 9:00)
CONTENT WARNING: Anti-Semitism, Racism
