Creating Happy Writers
It’s the end of Season 1 of the Creating Happy Writers podcast, and I asked listeners to write in with some of their questions about writing and publishing their non-fiction books.
And you guys didn’t disappoint!
In this season finale, you’ll find out more about:
  • The secrets to successful book launches - using my experience of working on the campaign for a Sunday Times’ Bestseller...
  • What hybrid publishing can offer - and what it actually means!
  • How to decide the price of your book when you’re ready to hit publish - something that often feels like it needs to be an exact science!
  • What to do if you can’t afford help from ALL the professionals - and the ones I think are ‘must-haves’ when embarking on self-publishing
And so much more!
Special thanks must go to Anna, Tracey, Vicki and Nia for their cracking questions - I really enjoyed answering them.
I hope you enjoy listening!

S1 Ep19: From Chaos to Clarity: Crafting an Outline for Your Non-Fiction Book

Outlining really is the best way to plan and structure your book - it stops you from facing the blank page each time you write, and it also means you get your message across in the right way for your reader.
For me, it’s an essential step of the writing process and one that all non-fiction writers should take to get the best possible book written.
But how do you create an outline? Don’t worry; you’ll discover the whole process in this episode.
You’ll learn:

  • The essential stages of outlining - so you don’t miss out the critical elements of your book’s structure
  • Why the TV show Grand Designs is closely related to the outlining process - and what you can learn from house-building to help you approach it in the best way
  • Which sections you should be putting into each chapter so your book is structured in a logical and helpful way for the reader
And so much more!
Outlining your non-fiction book takes the pressure off writing your first draft - it gets things moving, which is the first hurdle. It’s the force that pushes past inertia, so momentum kicks in.
I know it can feel like a complex process, but once you get into the swing of things, it does get easier and takes on a life of its own.
And this episode will help you on your way!
Enjoy - and happy outlining!

S2 Ep21: Setting Writing Goals: Is it Time for a Different Approach?

Welcome back to Season 2 of the podcast, and we’re kicking off with a bang!
Often, September feels a bit like January for business owners and writers alike - we’ve hopefully had a bit of a break over the summer, and we’re now ready and raring to go.
It’s natural to set some goals - including ones for your writing. But what if you took a slightly different approach to this process?
In this season opener, you’ll find out more about:

  • Why changing my approach to goal-setting led me to have the best year in professional and writing life in 2021.
  • Strategies you can take from this to apply to your own goal-setting - and why it’s time to let go of the reins.
  • A simple technique I’ve used to write my six books that keeps me motivated and making progress EVERY day - it’s a bit geeky, but it makes all the difference to whether my books get finished.
And so much more!
Goals should be enjoyable and possible to achieve - you don’t have to do it the way the gurus tell you. Perhaps it’s time to take your hands off the wheel and let go of your need to control exactly how things will pan out.
I hope you enjoy listening!
