This week’s episode of the Craft Parenting Podcast features a very special guest who knows a thing or two about craft beer (and sometimes parenting). The Gnarly Gnome – a Cincinnati-based craft beer blogger, podcaster, and YouTube creator known for his Oktoberfest Quests and being synonymous with anonymous – joins Caroline at Voodoo Brewing Co. in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.

They discuss a wide variety of topics, including the recent devastation of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee, the evolution of the craft beer industry, the journey from starting a beer blog to launching multiple podcasts to a YouTube “show” that’s not a show (or is it?). Plus, they also talk about the exciting revival of Cincy Beer Week, Big Cis, and much more.

This episode was recorded at Voodoo Brewing Co. in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.

Remember, Cincy Beer Week kicks off on Friday, October 4, and goes through Saturday, October 12. What is Cincy Beer Week? Cincy Beer Week is a celebration of all things craft beer, especially community, education, entertainment, and collaboration. The goal of the week is to bring the things that made us fall in love with craft beer back to the forefront, get us into bars and taprooms together, and hopefully bring a smile to your face. Get out there and support your local breweries. For more information, visit: https://www.cincybeerweek.com.

04/29/21 • 64 min

This is not a drill! Monkeys have invaded the west side of Cincinnati! Joe and Caroline discuss what is being reported by the news (fueled by social media) and detail their adventures from the week. In honor of it being what would normally be Flying Pig Weekend, they look back on some of the local races that they have participated in over the years. And surprise surprise almost all of them involve craft beer.
Here are the races that we discuss in this episode:

What We Are Drinking This Week

Joe:

Easter Candy - Pastry Stout (2020)
Brink Brewing - College Hill
Listermann Brewing - Norwood (collaboration beer)
ABV: 6%
no IBUs

"Hop into the season with an Easter candy inspired Pastry Stout collaboration with the fine folks at Listermann Brewing Co. Rich chocolate body, smooth peanut butter notes, and a creamy vanilla finish create an egg-cellent combination of flavors."

Caroline:

Moozie -Milk Stout
Brink Brewing - College Hill
ABV: 5.8%
IBUs: 20 (though it varies based on where you get your info, but my can says 5.8% Brink’s website says 6.2%)

“In honor of Uncle Jack’s nickname for his niece, Molly, seemed fitting for this rich, milk stout. Like a chocolate milkshake without the straw, it features chocolate and coffee notes, and almost chewy thanks to the addition of lactose and flaked oats. This beer boasts a bronze medal from the 2017 Denver Beer Competition and GOLD in the US Open Beer Championship. As of October 2020 has won gold 3 years in a row.”

Craft Parenting Podcast - Ep. 44 - The Quirks of Having Two Toddlers
play

01/22/22 • 45 min

In this week's episode of the Craft Parenting Podcast, Joe and Caroline talk about what life is like chasing around two toddlers, now that their son, Elliot, is walking and all of the quirks of having two toddlers in the house. Plus, Caroline compares Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to Rocky Horror Picture Show (R.I.P. Meat Loaf) and Joe has a dad joke that will melt your heart.
What We Are Drinking

Caroline’s Drink:
Peanut Butter Milk Stout
West Side Brewing - Westwood, Ohio
ABV: 6.7%
IBU: 32

“Our Peanut Butter Milk Stout features aromas of chocolate, coffee, peanut butter, and a light roast note. A dash of oats is also used in the brew to provide a full malty body. The nutty peanut butter flavor works with the sweetness from the lactose to help soften the roastiness, which comes through mostly on the finish.”

Joe’s Drinks:

Vienna Lager
West Side Brewing - Westwood, Ohio
ABV: 5.5%
IBU: 23

“This traditional lager is a deep copper color with a white head. Malt flavors of bread crusts and caramel give way to a spicy floral hop note from a generous helping of German Hallertau hops. The finish is clean and on the dry side, making this beer great for multiple pints or pairing with meals.”

Golden G.O.A.T.
Samuel Adams - Boston, MA
ABV: 5.0%
IBU: 20

“Let the cheering begin! Golden G.O.A.T. is your craft champ from the fame whistle to overtime. This easy-drinking lager will be your #1 pick on game day to keep you refreshed and coming back for more.”

Craft Parenting Podcast - Dad Think Ep. 3 – The Dangers of Artificial Intelligence
play

04/30/23 • 27 min

Artificial Intelligence has recently exploded into the mainstream. From Chatbot GPT to Microsoft’s Bing to AI-powered voice, photo, and video generators.
For the most part, people have been using this Artificial Intelligence technology for fun. People combine a bunch of unrelated keywords and they tell the Artificial Intelligence to create a picture. It’s fun, new, and exciting. In my last video, I asked if this technology is moving too quickly. The series of articles that I present in this video gives a very clear answer to this question.
WARNING: This video discusses dark topics like suicide. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
This is a new segment called "Dad Think" where Joe researches a topic and gives his perspective, both as a millennial and as a father. This was originally published on our YouTube Channel. Click here to subscribe.
