"Moving Forward" What we can do as Industry professionals to help fight social injustice and systemic racisim

In this episode, I am joined by Shameda Abdul-Mumin & Gene Samuel and we shared ideas on what we as an industry can do to help fight social injustice and lead by example.

We talked about:

  • Educate yourself on the subject, allow yourself to admit that you may be ignorant to the subject because you may have not experienced this before.
  • Know your rights- these are the rights of others.
  • Support Diversity in the workplace
  • Volunteer your time- according to responsiblebusiness.com 77% of volunteer’s report changes in their social action after volunteering.
  • If you see something, SAY something.
  • Practice what you preach- allow yourself to see a problem in someone’s eyes and have a proper dialogue when appropriate to find common ground with people who think differently.
  • Treat everyone with respect.
  • Have that awkward conversation- with your friends and peers.
  • Humbly Listen
  • Use your power and influence to implement change, start with your own power alley and the things you can control.
  • Partner with local non-traditional industry community based and diversity organizations
  • Educate unrepresented groups about the industry and how they can obtain a career
  • See, understand, and appreciate differences.
  • Respond to the issue the same way you would on an issue that directly impacted your family.
  • Open the door for opportunities to underrepresented groups.

Special thanks to the professionals below for leading our industry by example.
Clyde Davis, Cameron George, Josh Davis, Ashtin Berry, Ariel Neal, Duane Sylvestre & Nick Crutchfield.
