The Process (Part 1): This is the third episode of our Espresso for Beginners series. We review the first few aspects of pulling your first shot. We discuss selecting beans, grind sizes, water, distribution, tamping, etc. All those steps leading you to actually pulling a shot But, as always, we got lost in conversation and we weren't able to get to the point of actually pulling your shot. So... for the sake of brevity, our next episode (Part 2) will cover the remainder of the process including actually pulling that shot (we promise!).

Jose made a little mistake and uploaded the wrong episode audio file. This week's episode was supposed to be "A Tale of Three Methods" in which we delve deeper into the three methods we've mentioned in our previous episode. But, since a few folks have already listened to the audio, well just keep this audio and release "A Tale of Three Methods" in two weeks. We apologize for the confusion!
So, on to this episode...
Roasts Explained: We go into the different coffee roasts available, what do they mean, why they exist, and what to expect from them. We also discuss other less known roasts. At the end, we provide you with some ideas on how to try new roasts and hopefully find something you love.

Coffee Break - Thanksgiving Special: Gesha Tasting
play

11/25/21 • 29 min

We were able to get our hands on some Gesha coffee from Finca el Injerto in Guatemala thanks to Jose's cousin. In this episode, we share our experience and some of the raw audio of the tasting we did. We hope you enjoy something a little bit different from us this Thanksgiving!
Fun fact: Gesha (or Geisha) coffee does not have Japanese ties. The name refers to the Gesha region in Ethiopia from which this varietal comes from.
