In this emotional edition of Christopher and Eric's True Crime TV Club, your hosts serve up the first true crime stories that disturbed them when they were young. For Eric, it's the murder of Kitty Genovese, a notorious tale of alleged urban apathy that smeared an entire city. But is anything you've heard about it actually true? Eric was stunned by the revelations within A CRIME TO REMEMBER, Season 2, Episode 1, entitled "38 Witnesses". For Christopher, it's the disappearance of 10-year-old Kevin Collins from a San Francisco street corner in 1984, as documented in PEOPLE MAGAZINE INVESTIGATES, Season 4, Episode 3. It's a tragically unsolved case, but years later, the person responsible may be within sight. (This episode was recorded remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, which might explain slight variations in sound quality.)

There are certain questions your hosts Christopher and Eric return to again and again on this true crime-centric podcast. What is the true nature of justice? Is it possible for victims of violent crime to ever get closure? What the hell is bitcoin? In episode 5 of season 1 of the Canadian – not that there’s anything wrong with that – true crime series RICH AND SHAMELESS, entitled “The Mysterious Disappearance of a Bitcoin Millionaire”, we get a crash course in how this confusing Internet based currency allows for con artists and criminals to rook people out of their savings. Meet Gerry Cotten, founder of one of the largest Bitcoin trading platforms in the world. Now get a good look at him because he’s about to jet off to the other side of the world and die suddenly of a disease no one knew he had after locking your money away in a digital wallet only he had access to. His new wife doesn’t even have the code. Do you? Does anyone?

The second episode in a true crime pairing about one of the most prolific serial killers — and most prolific killers of queer men — of all time, Christopher and Eric finally find a true crime inspired drama that doesn’t have them scrambling for Wikipedia after every ridiculous scene. The BritBox produced DES features fine performances and impeccable production values (along with the occasional moment of wooden scripting.) But does it convey the true horror of both the cold, calculating monster at its center and the desperate chapter in Britain’s history that Des sought to exploit?

Mountains of cocaine and a sex-party filled seventy room mansion in the Hamptons are just two of the spicy ingredients in this installment of Christopher & Eric's True Crime TV Club, a sordid stew of drug-fueled conspiracies and ambitions run amok in 1980's Hollywood. When wildly successful theater producer Roy Raydin tries to make a name for himself in the City of Angels, he crosses paths with a host of wannabes and couldabeens who lead him to the doorstep of usetabe uber-producer Robert Evans, the man behind such films as "Chinatown" and "The Godfather". This episode of "The 1980's, The Deadliest Decade" follows every grisly, twist and turn on the one-way trip from Tinseltown to the bottom of an isolated Los Angeles canyon. Don't worry. Christopher and Eric will be sitting right next to you for the whole wild and terrifying ride.

Fame. Drugs. Murder. Encino! They're all on offer in the latest installment of "Christopher & Eric's True Crime TV Club" in which your hosts tackle a recent ABC News Special about the 1997 murder/suicide that claimed the life of one of Saturday Night Live's most famous cast members in his tony San Fernando Valley home. What toxic blend of ingredients turned the seemingly perfect marriage between famed actor Phil Hartman and his beautiful young model wife Brynn into a crime that splashed blood across the headlines? Christopher and Eric try to answer this very question while bringing their own experiences in the entertainment industry to bear on this tale of a Hollywood marriage turned time bomb.

Christopher & Eric - Ep. 57 – The Best Of The Worst
play

12/27/20 • 59 min

Christopher and Eric shine a light on their favorite bright spots in a very dark year, serving up their picks for the most helpful, therapeutic and diverting highlights of 2020, the year of the pandemic. The result is a sumptuous buffet of entertainment options, exercise aids and self-care apps we're sure you'll enjoy. None of these are paid endorsements. Christopher and Eric are way too bitchy for that. (And nobody's offered them enough money yet.) Your hosts also weigh in on the recent HBO true-crime documentary CRAZY, NOT INSANE, which promises to challenge our ideas around the insanity defense in major criminal cases. Does it, though? (This episode was recorded remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, which might explain slight variations in sound quality.)

Black Friday Month continues with an unconventional installment of Christopher & Eric’s True Crime TV Club in which the victims range from the self-esteem of teenage girls everywhere to the coastline of an African nation. Ever heard of fast fashion? Christopher and Eric hadn’t until they watched this eye-opening documentary BRANDY HELLVILLE & THE CULT OF FAST FASHION on Max. Follow along on this globe-trotting journey from a small Italian town known for fashion prowess (and fraud), to the struggling nation of Ghana to a Santa Monica, California boutique where the customers become unqualified employees and ultimately victims of this head spinning con job involving smoke, mirrors, misogyny and shirts that are only meant to be worn several times before landing in the trash where the journey to their final tragic destination only begins.
