CheapShow Pod

CheapShow is a comedy podcast all about getting the very best out of the worst! Be it Poundlands, Charity Shops, Car Boot Sales or Bargain Bins, hosts Paul Gannon & Eli Silverman poke around in the corners of the high streets and internet to find treasure in the trash. One week it could be a studio based show, the next, a live comedy event. It could even be a location report or a scripted adventure! A few things it is, however, is rude, crude, silly and drizzled in pop culture, nostalgia and plenty of verbal violence! It has guests, videos, songs, reviews, games and dares. We apologise in advance! www.thecheapshow.co.uk

CheapShow - Ep 371: Sauce Of The Gladiators
play

02/16/24 • 83 min

Do you feel the power of the Gladiators? Can you face the challenge of the champions? Do you have the courage of a hero? Do you have the will and the skill? Paul and Eli are going to find out this week when they attempt to play a board game based on the hit 1990s Saturday evening TV series, “Gladiators”. They’ll reminisce over their memories of the show, cover a tiny bit of its history and poke about for any mucky anecdotes before throwing down the board and playing the game... Which is probably for the best because game... Well, it’s not great! Also, after a bit of a break, Eli is back with his “Sauce Report” with a number of sweet and hot condiments to slurp down. Was it a good idea to resurrect this segment, or will the Cheap Chaps just be slurping down out of date sauce until the end of days? Find out this week, in a show packed with new characters, old gags and vast amounts of nonsense words. CheapShow - Ep 374: Noodle Boutique
play

03/08/24 • 61 min

It’s been a while, but Eli and Paul are finally diving into a new batch of instant noodle. It’s a new year and because the Country Urban Noodle Testlab Kitchen is “occupied”, Eli is going to have to open up the “Noodle Boutique”. It’s a place where Eli can show off his hand picked noodle discoveries, and this week, he’s got two very interesting examples! Will they pass muster? Listen and find out! Paul contributes to this episode by simply p****** Eli off with a range of new and annoying characters. There’s a mean old man, a Scouse poet and a desperate ghost hunter out to ruin Eli’s return to noodletown. Maybe a quick game of The Price of Shite will make him feel better. Spoiler Warning: It doesn’t! More mucky business on CheapShow awaits you. CheapShow - Ep 405: Return To The House of Pickles
play

10/11/24 • 55 min

Due to circumstances beyond Paul & Eli’s control, they’re recording this week’s episode from inside the original House of Pickles... And Eli couldn’t be happier! To “celebrate” the Cheap Chaps are going back to basics with some good old fashioned content. To get things going, Eli has a red hot Sauce Report in more ways than one. He’s sourced two sauces from a nearby convenience store, which was handy, as its conveniently down the road from his place! Paul delivers another Page Turner segment with a book he’s been trying to get into the show for ages. As it transpires, this book got a bit more of a reputation following its appearance in a recent Ghostbusters movie! This publication promises a world of “Strange But True” stories guaranteed to confuse the podcast hosts. In other news, CheapShow invents a new pet and, sadly, it’s exactly what you think “Nougat The Saucy Horse” is! CheapShow - Ep 372: Books Bunny
play

02/23/24 • 63 min

This week’s episode is all a bit random and bemusing. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Bugs Bunny ever visited London in the early 1970s? The answer may confuse you. In a Charity Shop Showcase, Paul is offering up a strange child’s album featuring Warner Brother’s most famous Looney Tunes that brings up way too many questions. Eli has a few odd trinkets himself, a curious assortment of toys, games and tiny toys, but Paul would rather get into his Page Turners segment! There are three books to investigate, ranging from comedy double act tie-in annuals to a large helping of 1980s nostalgia with Smash Hits 1985. It’s the final book that proves to be the most interesting. What if you turned Cadbury’s Crème Eggs into a literal egg hunt? One book, following in the trail of the legendary “Masquerade”, will present its own “Conundrum”! Find out more in this week’s economy comedy podcast! CheapShow - Ep 379: Expressionate Men
play

04/12/24 • 84 min

It’s another week of American snacks as Eli brings more sweet treats to the table. How will the Cosmos Oreos, Hostess Orange Cupcakes and Dr Pepper Peeps go down? More importantly, what exactly do Horse flavoured fried bread taste like? Paul and Eli are going to find out. There are some musical curios to listen to this week, and in a change from the norm, Paul is bringing the vinyl record goodness instead. There is a fascinating dive in the life of radio presenter and “soul singer” Steve Walsh and we also find out what a disco hit designed to entice Burnley Building Society customers sounds like... Especially when you consider who wrote the lyrics! Sadly, the addition of music to the show means another appearance from Trackbot and he still being defiled by anyone and everyone! It’s all very sticky business. CheapShow - Ep 377: Barshens Rises
play

03/29/24 • 79 min

They said it would never happen, but somehow it has! For the first time in over 5 years, the Barshens team have gathered in London for a special reunion episode of CheapShow! Paul and Eli welcome Stuart Ashen, Barry Lewis, Chris Bullock, Ryan Livermore and Izzie Jones (kinda) into their podcast world. It’s a packed show. Paul kicks things off with a few Sharticles, ranging from sexed up whales and dead hamsters to late library books and smooth bollocks. Along the way, there’ll be plenty of nonsensical tangents too. Not only that, but Paul crafts a Gannon’s Golden Games Gauntlet edition of Bars Vs Hens. Barry versus Stuart in three games to test their agility, creativity and dexterity. It’s the ultimate game of skill with a shocking outcome! Ryan and Chris get to play along too, as they’ll be betting on who will win AND play The Price of Shite for some quality p’twings! If you need your Barshens fix, this is the episode you have (probably) all been waiting for. Barshens Rises!! CheapShow - Ep 390: Dérive Time!
play

06/28/24 • 116 min

Sometimes people accuse CheapShow of being “too” random. With that in mind, Paul and Eli are about to throw a bit of chaos theory into their usual “walkabout” episodes. Following the principles of “The Theory of the Dérive” and using an app called “Randonautica” CheapShow is heading into South London to plot an unplanned journey through its streets and parks. Will the Cheap Chaps stop focusing on their everyday relationship to their social environment and start seeing the world differently, or will all that booze they’ve brought along with them create the kind of chaos that no app could possibly generate? As Paul and Eli pinball around Colliers Wood (because why not?), they’ll battle the high temperatures, odd liminal locations and confusing maps until it all gets too much. It’s another epic adventure on an epically small scale! CheapShow - Ep 393: Popcorn And Polk
play

07/19/24 • 82 min

CheapShow is back on the snacks on this edition of the economy comedy podcast. Thanks to yet another brilliant box of goodies from Ivenne, Paul and Eli will get to sample a range of weird and (hopefully) wonderful, flavoured popcorn. There will be some surprises along the way, some good and some very, very bad! One may even turn Paul’s stomach! After all the popcorn has been rated and reviewed, it’s time to pop over to Silverman’s Platter to investigate some “interesting” musical vinyl offerings. They’ll hear more from Black Lace and discuss their self-styled “holiday camp novelty pop” track, “I Speaka Da Lingo!”. It doesn’t end there either! CheapShow discovers the work of Jon Isherwood, Portsmouth’s own godfather of “Polk” music. What starts with “Apple Pie” will end with “The Cucumber Song” and Jon’s own legacy. If all that isn’t enough, Paul and Eli will be visited by food reviewer John Gunty who will give us his own thoughts, as long as his wife stops interrupting... And as ever... Poor Track Bot (you’ll find out why this week)! CheapShow - Ep 375: Scared Of Us
play

03/15/24 • 90 min

Sometimes, when Paul and Eli ask a big name to join the podcast, they fully expect the answer to be No. So when comedy legend Robert Popper agrees to appear, the Cheap Chaps are going to have to pull out all the stops to make this episode special. Luckily, Robert has come prepared and he’s brought along with him something sonically demented. It’s been a guilty pleasure of Robert’s for over 30 years and he’s agreed to share it with CheapShow. Prepare your ears for something even Urinevision would reject. What is “Scared of Me”? Who is Clifford? You’ll find out soon enough! Meanwhile, Paul has decided to make this week’s “Price of Shite” extra special for their guest. He’s tailored his cheap treasures around Robert’s career... But Paul may have gotten a bit confused. As if that wasn’t enough, we have another extra special guest who pops up to make for a grand finale! Cor blimey guv’nor! I can’t believe my ears! With Special Guests: Robert Popper & Paul Putner (Spoilers!) CheapShow - Ep 373: The Towel Mines
play

03/01/24 • 59 min

It’s time to get our much on! After a bit of break, Paul and Eli are venturing back to the Snack Palace to welcome a new bunch of snack candidates to see if they are worthy of entry to the hallowed building. There are three products arriving on the Segment Bus (don’t ask!) and they’ll prove to be interesting characters in their own horrible right! However, there is something dark lurking under the glamourous façade of the Palace. What happens to all the lost snacks who don’t even make it into the pool house? What are the Towel Mines? The answer may appal you. Or confuse you. There is also time for a quick “Off Brand / Brand Off” with the popular Quavers taking on a cheaper supermarket brand facsimile! Will Eli the Supertaster figure out the flavour code and choose wisely? Why not listen and find out? The best podcast. Simple as that. I could have a terrible week but when I get to Friday I know Paul and Eli will, if even but for a moment, put a smile on my face. Or have me crying laughing, they've done that too. Gits. It's not a great look in public.

The best podcast out there. Silly, wacky and actually quite educational at times, it’s the scruffy little podcast with a big heart.

I love this absurd, rude and hugely irreverent podcast, that is never what I expect but always what I want. It often fails at the simplest tasks and confounds my expectations, but takes character comedy and wordplay to stunning new heights.
