- Breaking the Cycle: Recognizing that every time we say we’re ending the relationship but stay we trust yourself a little less, plus some strategies to begin rebuilding that trust in self
- Sit in the Discomfort: Learning how to put down someone else’s emotional work and be okay being uncomfortable with where that leaves us, like breaking the cycle and finally ending the relationship
- Stop Self-Abandoning: When we, whether consciously or subconsciously, put ourselves in a place to be abandoned by another person we are self-abandoning and recreating a childhood abandonment wound. We can reclaim our power by taking ownership and ending that cycle and pattern

Ep 196: Finding Safety in Spirituality After Religious Trauma with Dr. Laura Anderson, PhD.
Dr. Laura Anderson, PhD. is a psychotherapist, trauma resolution coach and consultant, writer and educator specializing in complex and developmental trauma, dynamics of power and control and religious trauma. In this episode of Cheaper than Therapy the Podcast, we sat down with Dr. Anderson to discuss all things spirituality and religious trauma, and about her book “When Religion Hurts You.”
🌟 What You’ll Gain from this Episode:
- Religion vs Spirituality: Addressing the role of religion and/or religious trauma in your upbringing is a personal spiritual journey that doesn’t have to create anti-religious rhetoric in your life, but helps find a way to feed your soul in a safe and fulfilling way
- Patriarchy within The Church: Recognizing that at the root of most religions is the same intention and message, and the patriarchy’s need for control, power, and certainty are what create religious trauma, and that finding safety within religion and spirituality is possible
- Finding Internal Safety: A lot of the work done to heal from religious trauma includes learning how to find safety within yourself for the first time, rather than looking to an external source like your parents or The Church

Ep 198: Cultivating Authentic Connection with Alexandra Ballensweig
In this episode of Cheaper than Therapy the Podcast, we sat down with Alexandra Ballensweig to discuss modern dating, the importance of approaching dating with awareness and slowness, and the drawbacks of online dating and dating apps. Alexandra Ballensweig is the founder of HumHum (short for human to human) a dating experience for people seeking meaningful and authentic connection with others, while simultaneously discovering themselves. Alexandra is a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher, Reiki Master Teacher, and practitioner trained in the Usui Method, and a Vipassana practitioner. She holds an M.S. of Industrial Design from Art Center College of Design and is currently enrolled in the Dedicated Practitioner’s Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.
🌟 Some Big Takeaways from this Episode:
- Slow Down: Bringing stillness to dating in order to not only find authentic connection in relationship with another person, but authentic connection in relationship with Self, too
- Be a Human: People are not meant to exist in a 2D online dating snapshot, and should be in person, authentically connecting with others face to face about what lights our souls on fire
- Kick the Addiction: Recognizing that dating apps are created to not only create an addiction around constantly searching for the “next best thing,” but an addiction around “being chosen” and seeking external validation rather than validation from Self
