at some point you reach a savings target and then you say, well, why don't I go another notch up and another notch up and is that one more year syndrome, obviously. So I did that for a few years, especially if you work in finance, right? You can make very good money. And then you get your year end bonus, which is usually paid out early during the calendar year. And so you get that one bonus and then you ask yourself, should I retire now? Oh no, let's do one more year.
