Freaks (1932) - with Adrian Smith
06/03/22 • 56 min
In this episode, Adam is joined by a REAL DOCTOR, Dr Adrian Smith - though he's a doctor of film studies, so if anyone gets sick on the plane. he'll only be able to talk to them about the in-flight entertainment. He's here to discuss controversial 1932 masterpiece Freaks, traditionally billed as a horror film ("containing some of the most terrifying scenes in film history" according to one modern reviewer), but is it? Or is it actually for the most part a comedy-drama about disability, exploitation and fitting in?

An American Werewolf In London (1981) - with Alex Pearson
In this exciting* first episode of Cardboard Cinema Club, Adam is joined by Alex Pearson to chat about the classic 1981 John Landis horror-comedy, An American Werewolf In London. A naked American man stole their balloons - and they never did get the £2 they were promised - but they've vowed to plough on regardless like the troupers they are.

A Hard Day's Night (1964) - with Heather Wainwright - PART 1
Uh-oh - today, Adam is joined by his RetroTube partner, Heather Wainwright, to giggle their way through a discussion about their combined favourite film, The Beatles' surprisingly bad-tempered 1964 romp, A Hard Day's Night. And they ended up chatting and giggling for so long that it's been split up into two episode's worth of fangirling. But it's not just quoting lines and laughing: there's insight and analysis too, of a sort.
