PEABODY FIREFIGHTER AND NAVY SEABEE PETTY OFFICER FIRST CLASS E-6 DAN BARRASSO
Often times in life we hear the famous quote “ Good things come in small packages”. That quote fits my next guests character to a Precise T. He maybe small in nature, but has the heart of a Lion. More important is that something valuable or important can often be found in something seemingly small or insignificant.
On December 31, 2016 my next guest found himself in the right place at the right time on a cold New England winter morning. A fire broke out in a three story wood frame residential dwelling in the City of Everett, Massachusetts. Everett is located just 6.1 miles North of Boston.
This Off Duty Career Peabody Firefighter was driving in his own personal vehicle in a residential neighborhood where he smelled and seen smoke pushing from the eaves of a residential multi story dwelling. He reacted immediately without hesitation pulling over parking his vehicle into a strangers driveway. He ran towards danger where he was informed by residents who were fleeing the fire that some residents are still inside. Peabody Firefighter Dan Barrasso who had no regard for himself wearing civilian clothes with no fire protection conducted primary searches to the first, second and third floors of the multi-family dwelling.
Searching and clearing the first and second floors he made his way to the third floor. When reaching to a third floor platform apartment he was met by smoke and heat conditions. His persistence of clearing the building came to fruition as he found an elderly male trying to get dressed inside a bedroom. Because of the selfless act of bravery and courage the elderly males life was spared.
Dan Barrasso is a Honorably Discharged as a Petty Officer First Class E-6 serving 14 years with Navy SeaBees. He fought the Iraq War Conflict “Operation Iraq Freedom” in 2008-2009. He fought along side the 3rd Battalion 7 Marines “Tiger Team”.
Petty Officer Barrasso holds many Medals, Citations and Awards for Bravery during a stellar 14 year career in the Navy. Please welcome to Captain Kid’s Corner Season 2, Episode 8 Peabody Firefighter Dan Barrasso.
