Fire Birds v. Sonny
12/16/20 • 76 min
This week on CAGE/OFF we begin winding down the first round of the Zeus's Butthole conference by talking about two movies nobody has seen! First, we talk about Fire Birds (1990), a film that dares to ask the question: what if Top Gun, but helicopters? Then we discuss Nicolas Cage's directorial debut Sonny (2002), a mostly bad film centered around a male prostitute (James Franco) trying to get out from under the thumb of his brothel-running mother. Cage himself also has a small cameo as a character named "Acid Yellow". Also in this episode: how Tommy Wiseau wanted James Franco to play him in The Disaster Artist after seeing his Sonny performance, Ashley has been spiritually defeated by Nicolas Cage movies, and we reveal the films we will be covering in Season 3!

The Cotton Club v. Wild at Heart
On today’s episode of CAGE/OFF, we complete the trilogy of Nicolas Cage’s collaborations with his uncle Francis with The Cotton Club (1984), a part-musical, part-crime film about the Harlem jazz scene in the 20s and 30s. Then, we go POWEEEEEER MAAAAAD talking about David Lynch’s violent and darkly comic road film Wild at Heart (1990) before deciding which film will be moving on in the bracket! We also discuss which Nic Cage/Francis Coppola film is our favorite, sing the praises of the absolute legend Crispin Glover, and generally gush about Wild at Heart. Thanks for listening!

G-Force v. Trespass (with Cage/Fight)
On today's episode of CAGE/OFF we are joined by Mike and Jess from the Cage/Fight Podcast (@cagefightpod) to discuss of final match-up of the Zeus's Butthole conference before our season finale: the part-live action, part-CGI animated Disney film G-Force (2009) about guinea pigs who want to be cops, and the home invasion thriller Trespass (2011), directed by the late great Joel Schumacher. Will we be persuaded to join G-Force Gang, or will the thrills and chills of Nicolas Cage being cucked by a pool boy win the day? There's only one way to find out!
