With the recent release of the single, Mr. Motivator, we delve into the musical history and evolution of the self proclaimed "not a f*cking punk band," IDLES. In this episode, we break down IDLES' lyrical and musical content and try and predict where they are heading with their upcoming third album, Toneland. Exploring past musical influences ranging from Bauhaus to LIFE, we draw connections to similar style evolutions of Porridge Radio and Slaves. Lastly, we brave the political quagmire of the IDLES/Sleaford Mods social media fight and talk about music, class, and authenticity.

S1E2: The Eastern Front

Joined by our friend, Liza Kupreeva, we discuss cold wave as pioneered by Eastern European bands like Molchat Doma, Ploho and Motorama, as well as American counterparts John Maus and Boy Harsher. We try to define what the current cold wave scene entails, covering a bit of history on the origins of rock behind the Iron Curtain along the way. We also take a crack at explaining the differences are between cold wave and the post-punk currently coming out of the UK and ask why cold wave is so bloody popular in Latin America.
