Buddhist Society of Western Australia - What does Buddhism say about Love? | Ajahn Mudito | 5 Feb 2023
play

08/17/23 • 75 min

Dhamma talk by Ajahn Mudito on the 5 Feb 2023, at the Buddhist Society of Victoria (BSV).

The Sutta that Ajahn Mudito references can be found here, MN87 Piyajātikasutta: https://suttacentral.net/mn87/en/sujato?layout=linebyline&reference=none&notes=asterisk&highlight=false&script=latin

Bhante Mudito was born in a remote village in Northern-Finland. After completing military service, he travelled to the United States where he attended chef school and worked in a high-end hotel for a few years. While living in New York his long-time interest in Buddhism evolved as he started meditating with different groups. He sought after many teachers and found many of them to be too lofty or simply too boring. But then the stars aligned when Ajahn Brahm wrote his hit book Open the Door of your Heart and on the book promotion tour he came to New York where Mudito fell in love with Ajahn and his simple teachings. He has followed Ajahn Brahm ever since and in 2010 he went to stay in Bodhinyana and ordained as a monk in 2012.

Buddhist Society of Western Australia - Dhamma Talk - Buddhist Mind-States Management | Bhante Bodhidhaja | 24 Feb 2019
play

07/25/21 • 54 min

In this talk, Bhante Bodhidhaja focuses on relating with difficult or negative states of mind. Once a problem has arisen, we learn how to "let it be" and "let it go". Bhante goes on to define the problem clearly by explaining unwholesome habits and difficult mind states. He defines the origin (samudaya) and ending (Atthangama) of these mind states. He describes it as Priming, triggering and overreaction. By not feeding it, giving it space, gaining perspective, we can extinguish these negative mind states. He explains relating to anger in terms of gratification, danger and the escape from it. In summary, through the practice of four great efforts of "Let it be", "Let it go", "let it grow", "let it show" we can cultivate wholesome mind states and abandon unwholesome mind states.
