BYOB: Die Hard
Welcome to the party pal. Well then, the festive season is upon us and what better way to kick it off with one of the GOAT Xmas films 'Die Hard'. Eurgh we should probably throw this out there up front... can you even call this a Christmas film? Big big disagreement between the boys on this one.
Before we go too far though - lots of juicy review action to get into. First up we've got a full run down of Saltburn which has a lot of unexpected joy in. On top of that we give you the full debrief of Napoleon as well plus we go through lots of your comments.
So... Die Hard... Where to start. John Mcclane. An action hero for the 90's, he really redefined what it was to be an action hero. Chances are this will get lost in the post but, Bruce Willis wasn't an action star before this film. He was known for comedy and romcoms. Which is probably a huge part of why his performance here is so hard hitting. His timing, the accessibility and the brutal reality of his performance really is a marked gear change from the action hero's of the 80's.
We of course also need to talk about Alan Rickman, what a dreamy performances as a Die Hard villain. Remarkably he never saw Hans Gruber as a bad guy... he just saw him as a man who had a plan and intended to see it through.
There's some unbelievable trivia, some beautiful technical bits to get into as well and on top of that we'll be dissecting the big Xmas yes or Xmas no discussion!

BYOB: Elf
We're very much into Xmas szn aren't we. With Christmas just a few days away now is of course the first time to make a full blown deep dive into one of the greatest festive films there has ever been. This week we're discussing Elf. 20 years later you won't be surprised to hear that Elf is every bit as magic as you remember - sorry to spoil the fine wine or war crime section. Will Ferrell starts as Buddy the Elf and hits every single festive beat possible.
In terms of films that we've seen at the cinema this week - three to hit you with this week. Wonka - is it the family five star favourite that everyone is saying that it is? 'How to have Sex' - a very late shout for one of the films of the year and then finally we have look into 'Leave the World Behind' as well.
On the elf front some bits for you to get your teeth stuck into...
Why does this film seem to have so much heart? Where does this rank in the Pantheon of Will Ferrell cinema? Should there ever be an Elf sequel? And when we describe the spirit of Christmas in films, what is it that we're looking for? Plus we take your comments and bring you a new feature called IMDball.
