Ep.11 - Protest and Policing
04/06/21 • 59 min
It's been a while but we're back with just the two of us, and we take the chance to dive straight into some heavy stuff! We talk about the wave of protests that have been happening in the UK, and the police response to them. We try and think about the way in which the Church works to legitimise police violence, and then try to find some resources from within Christianity to oppose this and support protest.

Ep.10 - Narnia & CS Lewis (feat. Harriet Williamson)
We are joined by the writer, artist and activist Harriet Williamson to talk about CS Lewis and his books the Chronicles of Narnia. We also discuss post-lockdown anxiety, the real reason women shouldn't be in battles, and our groundbreaking theory that Aslan represents Jesus.
Content note: Between roughly 12 minutes and 22 minutes of the podcast, we discuss mental health issues and the supposed exorcism of demons that cause mental health issues. We also touch on child sex abuse, and reference abuse in the church more generally. Please do skip this segment if that's what's best for you.
You can find Harriet on twitter at @harriepw, and her website is https://www.harrietwilliamson.com. She is editor-in-chief of the brand new digital magazine sulk, which you can find on twitter at @sulkmag. The article of hers we discuss can be found here: https://www.vogue.co.uk/arts-and-lifestyle/article/social-anxiety

Ep.11a - Bonus Mind Grapes!
Because the way our episodes are numbered aren't already stupid enough, we've added letters into the mix. We fired off some hot takes that got cut from last week's episode in order to keep the run time below an hour, but we didn't want to deprive the world of our nonsense, so here's a bonus episode. This is a very rough and ready cut, but we thought we'd throw it out with very minimal editing. We chat about some big names - NT Wright, Keir Starmer, Eugene Peterson - and we're actively rude about at least two of them.
Content note: Between roughly 25 minutes and 29 minutes of the podcast, we discuss sexual and spiritual abuse in detail. We then discuss the issue for the rest of the episode. Please do skip this segment if that's what's best for you.
