Brave Women at Work - EP: 53 Grit vs. Grind: Make the Switch and Feel the Difference

EP: 53 Grit vs. Grind: Make the Switch and Feel the Difference

12/23/21 • 24 min

Brave Women at Work

What is the difference between grit and grind?

I heard this concept referenced recently in a “We Can Do Hard Things” with Glennon Doyle and Brene Brown and I wanted to share my own spin on this concept. Like I’ve mentioned in this podcast before, working women have the tendency to take on all the things without thinking about how it makes us feel.

So I wanted to talk about the difference between working in the grind vs. grit and how working with grit is a game-changer.

In the show, I talk about the following: - the definition between grit and grind - the hallmarks of being in grit vs. grind - ways to move towards living and working with grit The bottom line is that when we’re operating in our place of grit, it makes work feel like play. We feel full of life and in our highest place of power. And working and living from that place makes all the difference.

EP: 52 Heart Boss with Regan Walsh

I know that I feature a lot of books on the Brave Women at Work show, but the book Heart Boss by Regan Walsh really stole my heart. It's a great mix of Regan's personal stories and wisdom that get you thinking about how you can start trusting your intuition more.

I know that I often get caught up with being in my head instead of my heart. And while thinking logically will take us very far, sometimes you just have to go with your gut. During this conversation, Regan shares examples from her life and career when she did just that and proves that when you listen to your heart, you will always land in the right place.

Listen in to be inspired and motivated to take a deeper look at your own stories and to learn to trust yourself more than ever before.

Here’s a bit more about Regan: Regan Walsh is an NYU-certified executive and life coach who focuses on helping women who are over-programmed and underwhelmed to reclaim their lives, both personally and professionally. She contributes to Harvard Business Review and Forbes, and has been featured in Fast Company, Smart Business, NBC.com, and Today. She has coached thousands of women through her one-on-one and group coaching programs, and she is regularly asked to give keynotes, facilitate workshops, and speak on panels for Fortune 500 companies, industry associations, and foundations.

She has done so for clients like Nike, QuickBooks, JPMorgan, Nationwide Insurance, and more, for audiences ranging from 50 to 1,000.

She is also the author of Heart Boss: Trust Your Gut, Shed Your Shoulds and Create a Life You Love.

EP: 54 Discover Your Strengths with Sarah Marie Liddle

I’m really excited for our guest today, Sarah Marie Liddle. Sarah is a certified life and corporate coach with a specialization in positive psychology. Positive psychology is the scientific study of human flourishing and an applied approach to optimal functioning.

As part of this functioning, Sarah and I talked about finding and leveraging our strengths. We so often are focused on our weaknesses and how we can improve them that we completely ignore our strengths. I believe that each one of us has unique strengths that we can leverage at work.

I used to think that if I was going to get a job or a promotion that I had to know every part of the job description. And if I had a weakness, I had to fill the gap so I was “well rounded”. What an error in my thinking! To be great, we need to know where we shine.

Sarah and I also talked about various strengths assessment tools so you can learn more about your strengths right after this podcast. If you haven’t taken a strengths test, I highly recommend that you do this! There are so many options out there, and many of them are free. Take this time and invest in yourself! I promise it will make a difference.
