Ever wondered what goes into crafting a novel? Each week on the Bookcast, I offer a front-row seat to the writing process. This week, I navigate the final stages of my project, Elysium. The joys and challenges of creating a romantic escape for my characters are all laid bare in this candid discussion. Also, if you've been nodding along or cracking up at my bookish banter, I share the love on my support site, buymeacoffee!
Plus, there's a delightful surprise for new fans of my books- if you haven't read Leslie's Curl and Dye, it's currently on sale where eBooks are sold.
I talk about the following books/references during the episode:
- Mules and Men by Hurston, Zora Neale
- Sisterhood Heals: The Transformative Power of Healing in Community by Bradford, Joy Harden
- Murder is a Piece of Cake (Baker Street Mystery #2) by Burns, Valerie
- The Edge of Dawn by Jenkins, Beverly
- In July, we read Ms Bev! The Jenkins July group is reading TOPAZ, ALWAYS & FOREVER, CHANCE AT LOVE, TAMING OF JESSI ROSE. I have already read them this year. Up next for me is BLACK LACE and SOMETHING LIKE LOVE

Bookcast Episode 47: And We're Back!
On episode 47 of the Bookcast, we start with the book report as always, then we'll do a quick and dirty rundown of two author centered events I attended recently that I want to share, and finally we will talk about progress on ELYSIUM and... the getting is GOOD right now.
I have read 89 of my challenge of reading 150 books this year. I have edited my challenge to increase the number of books I plan to read. Can't stop, won't stop.
I have written 49 of the 65K I plan to write on ELYSIUM. Remember when this book was a novella? Good times. Stretch goal is early Sept so my brain doesn't freak out but in reality i hope to wrap in July and come in around 55-60K words.
More deets in the episode. I talked about the following books:
Yours (King's Town, #3) by Shon
Loving State of Mind by Edwards, Mycah
Date for the Mayor by Pynn, Aubreé
A Right Worthy Woman by Watson, Ruth P.
Rooted in Love: A Sweet Rapids Story by Russ, Té
Rich Waters (Jason Rich #2) by Bailey, Robert
Mr One and Only by Sharon C Cooper
Sisterhood Heals by Joy Harden Bradford, PhD
The Baby Swap That Bound Them by Hana Sheik
Murder is a Piece of Cake by Valerie Burns
Mules and Men by Zora Neale Hurston
The Edge of Dawn by Beverly Jenkins
Dark Town by Thomas Mullen
Midnight Atlanta by Thomas Mullen
Blacktop Wasteland by SA Cosby
Razorblade Tears by SA Cosby
My Darkest Prayer by SA Cosby
All the Sinners Bleed by SA Cosby

Bookcast Episode 49: THE END is nigh!
Ever wondered how a podcast episode is prepared?
Pictureit: Atlanta, 2023. A Friday night, a beverage, a snack, my laptop and me, deep in the process of getting ready for the next episode. This week, we're delving into my writing journey from fanfiction to getting ready to complete my 12th novel, my work on Elysium over the long weekend, and a few deals on my books including Leslie's Curl and Dye, Thin Line, and selected audiobooks available for a steal at $3.99!
And then, we're getting real about challenges of writing a novel in real time. I'm sharing how personal growth impacts writing, how I navigate crafting intimate scenes and why my characters are often at transformative stages in their lives. Plus, I'll tease my recent guest appearance on an *NSYNC podcast and fanfic writers, can rev those engines again.
It's a jam-packed episode, and I can't wait to share it with you!
