MSFT Ignite Announcements, ChatGPT pauses signups, Humane AI Pin, and more | Blue Hour Ep 32
Blue Hour
11/22/23 • 41 min
We begin this week discussing several Microsoft announcements from their annual Ignite conference, primarily around Co-Piot, the latest Bing chat. You can now access Co-Pilot (a ChatGPT+ equivalent with Bing browsing capabilities) in Bing, Chrome, and Safari browsers, and MSFT is aiming to include Co-Pilot in it’s full suite of products. Next we explore some interesting ChatGPT+ news and their indefinite pause of new Plus user signups. Not bad for the fastest growing user app in history, and not without exciting implications around an expanding user base. After delving into the Humane AI Pin including its OpenAI-driven backend and futuristic feel, we explore the newest ChatGPT knowledge cutoff of April 2023. ChatGPT now has knowledge of itself, that it exists, that it’s in production, of its own history and documentation, and can talk to all of it. We wrap up looking forward to some more interesting AI use cases, unpack an interesting InfoSec newsletter, and finish with an interesting thought - that all this came from trying to guess the next word in the earliest stages of LLM development.

Let's talk GPTs! | Blue Hour Ep 35
Blue Hour
12/17/23 • 29 min
Join us for episode 35, or rather 34 Part II, as we talk all things GPTs.
Though the public GPT marketplace is delayed until the new year, and some small performance issues persist, we’re still incredibly excited to see how the GPT ecosystem evolves. Similarly to the tech it’s built on, we see a massive amount of unrealized potential in building, and we’re hopeful the revenue sharing with the public marketplace will spur some action. MSFT also announced the potential for GPTs to interoperate with Bing - introducing a much larger addressable market in Bing users, though creation of GPT’s will still be reserved for Plus users. Lots to unfold.
We speak to our personal GPT builds, including Erich’s mission to build ~5 a week, streaming the creation on YouTube in hopes to showcase just how fun and accessible it really is.
Stay tuned as we continue to share the latest across GPT developments and more.
Dust settles as OpenAI hits the one year mark, Google's big release and more | Blue Hour Ep 34
Blue Hour
12/12/23 • 31 min
And we’re back this week for Episode 34! Join us as we record in the same room for the first time, and certainly not the last.
Last episode ended with Sam Altman’s departure from OpenAI and Erich’s hot take that he would be back before too long... As OpenAI faced the potential reality of loosing 700+ employees, Altman is indeed back as CEO within five days of his termination. In short, there’s no good answer and much conjecture as to what precipitated these events, but join us as we explore it all.
Next up we explore Google’s latest announcement, the release of Gemini, their ChatGPT4 competitor. With an emphasis on multimodality, they’ve released 3 versions; Ultra, to use with large data sets, Pro, as a ChatGPT3.5 competitor, and Nano for mobile devices. Of course there’s already much back and forth regarding superiority, but some of the only practical demos we’ve found seem to lean ChatGPT. We’re very excited to see how it all unfolds.
Join us soon for part two of this episode!
10/28/23 • 35 min
Episode 29 begins with exploring how we use ChatGPT+ (a mere $20/month price tag that'll let you take advantage of all we cover and more). From Advanced Data Analysis and DALLE3 image generation to Browsing, Whisper, and the myriad of plugins, we highly encourage you consider it. (Deeper dives into the features in Episodes 27 & 28).
Once again we continue to delve into what we see as the pervasive misunderstandings of the technology. If you have a desired output, ChatGPT+ is there to help. Develop an app, become a data analyst, explore it, ask some questions, go try it out and have some fun.
Lastly we examine some fears of AI. Will it take your job? Take over the human race? We doubt it, but maybe we'll see some indentured AI servants, robocops, or even some robofriends soon enough...
If you haven't already, check it out. The free version is incredible too. Think supplement over replacement. Don't forget to get outside and connect with some real people here and there.
Stack Overflow x Purdue Study, New ChatGPT+ Feature, Paypal Stablecoin, and more | Blue Hour Ep 25
Blue Hour
10/22/23 • 34 min
And we’re back with Episode 25! We start this week discussing a joint study by Stack Overflow and Purdue University. It analyzed ChatGPT's responses to coding queries as seen on Stack Overflow, and concluded that while ChatGPT excels with general questions, it struggles with producing code. We jump in with our firsthand experiences and insights producing large amounts of clean code with ChatGPT. Next, we explore ChatGPT4's new content moderation endpoint tool, which leverages OpenAI's technology to empower fewer moderators to expand the model more rapidly and accurately. It will increase content label consistency with implications for a myriad of companies dealing with crowd-sourced inputs. We then dive into Amazon's new product review feature, which aggregates all reviews on popular products, enabling prospective buyers to query this dataset with specific questions before buying. Another application of the limited database-mindset? Lastly, we return to defi with PayPal announcing its crypto stable coin launch. As one of the largest financial service providers, we discuss the possible implications of large-scale adoption thanks to their massive user base. FTC investigates OpenAI, ChatGPT+ features, encouraging AI entrepreneurs, and more | Blue Hour Ep 24
Blue Hour
08/15/23 • 37 min
This week we start with the FTC investigation into Open AI. We wonder how often people are actually filing complaints related to its hallucinations, and how many people understand the nuance between a search engine and a reasoning engine.
We also chatted about custom instructions for ChatGPT+ users, a great tool for people who want to have a consistent chat-context and response-tone from the chatbot.
There’s a lot of opportunity right now for entrepreneurs building with AI, especially because many of the biggest players, like OpenAI and Anthropic, are laser-focussed on making artificial general intelligence (AGI) a reality. We discussed some of the opportunities we’re seeing and some of the products we’ve come across.
Finally, we wrap things up by discussing whether generative-art is art at all, inspired by a recent article in the Technology & Marketing Law Blog.
Thanks for tuning in for another week.
