048 Mia Laurenzo on "In the Land of Good Living" by Kent Russell
05/10/21 • 32 min
Today's guest Mia Laurenzo, of the SoFlo Weird Show, is a curator of everything weird and wonderful about our most improbable state. The book she chose is nonfiction account about three men who journey through Florida on foot. It’s as nutty and delightful as it sounds.

047 Aime Austin on "What Came Before He Shot Her" by Elizabeth George
This is one of those episodes that totally changed my mind about a book. I initially didn’t like the book, and didn’t bother finishing it. But chatting with crime novelist Aime Austin changed my perspective entirely. The second we finished talking, I immediately ordered the first book in the series, so I could get the whole picture. Also, if you are a library person, you are going to love hearing about how Aime relies on her local librarians to curate a reading list for her and her son.

What Came Before He Shot Her by Elizabeth George
(This book is 14th, in the Inspector Lynley series, which begins with A Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George. Though as Aime explained to me, “What Came Before He Shot Her” is more of a side story than a murder mystery in the series.)
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Inspector Gamache Series by Louise Penny
The Dublin Murder Squad Series by Tana French

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough

049 Ysaura Vanegas on "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho
Yzaura Vanegas is a director, producer and trainer of interactive live events for Nickelodeon and the host, producer and writer of the podcast How About A Story. It’s difficult to categorize the genre of the book she chose to talk to me about today. It teeters somewhere between self-help, motivational, fable, and love story. But it’s also a fictional tale about a journey, and I loved talking to her about how we have read “The Alchemist” over the years.
