Bede Vs. The Living Dead Episode 13 - Nights Of The Living Dead: An Anthology (2017)... The NOTLD Inspired Short Story Novel
Bede Vs. The Living Dead05/20/23 • 110 min
Hey, everyone! Welcome to episode 13 of Bede Vs. The Living Dead. The podcast where your host Bede Jermyn explores the remakes, re-edits, reimaginings, homages, unofficial follow-ups and more to George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night Of The Living Dead across all media.
Apologies once again. As stated at the end of the previous episode of the show, originally this one was going to be on the original cast recording of the 2019 off-Broadway production of Night Of The Living Dead: The Musical! but unfortunately due to some things that came up on the guest's end, the episode wasn't able to be recorded. Don't worry, that episode will come in a future date instead. Plus because of that, the podcast needed to be delayed by one week due to the change in scheduling. Once again, apologies for that. For this episode of the show, your host Bede has decided to take a trip to the world of literature to dive into a short story anthology that's inspired by the original NOTLD film with the 2017 novel Nights Of The Living Dead: An Anthology, which was edited/curated by George A. Romero himself & Jonathan Mayberry and features story contributions from writers Joe R. Lansdale, Brian Keene, David J. Schow, Carrie Ryan, John Skipp, John A. Russo, Chuck Wendig, Isaac Marion and many more.
Joining Bede to discuss on this anthology novel that's set during Night Of The Living Dead are two first-time guests who have a lot of experience in the world of horror literature: writers Aaron Dries (author of the books House Of Sighs, Dirty Heads and Cut To Care: A Collection Of Little Hurts, which you can buy at his official website here) and Zachary Ashford (author of Sole Survivor, Sole Survivor II: Drop Bears On The Loose and When The Cicadas Stop Singing, which you can buy at his official website here). Highlights in this one include Aaron & Zachary discussing the first time they both saw the original Night Of The Living Dead film, which stories stood out for each of them from the novel, what did they think of George A. Romero's shorty story contribution, the genre-mash up that Bede absolutely loved, how the audio book version brings out the cinematic quality of some of the stories, praise the consistent quality of the novel and many more.
